I would hate to assume anything so I must ask,is your son ready to race Baja?No offense intended here because there has been a handful of youngsters that have done well in mexico, especially the locals because they are involved at such a young age.Now I might look like a total dk here and not knowing who you are doesnt help but I just wonder how much experience you son has or dont get me wrong in saying, how level headed he is and not just how down right fast he is.I guess it just comes down to safety.

BAJA = Easy to go fast / Easy to Die.

Get Some Experiance. Alot of it.

Maybe he already has some. No Offense.

I'm not a Dad yet but if I was it would be a hard for me knowing my boy was out there with the TT's. Now if he was WELL prepped with heaps of prerunning and a solid team, he wouldn't get caught by the TT in the SF 250 and B500.

But the B1K is a different story. Entirely.

RobertL-you're Baja experienced so you should know whats best for your boy or not.

If he wants to just finish a Baja race, he can do it just needs to be safe and take it easy. If he wants to go all out and try to win , then he needs to get some experience riding in baja first. The race course is very different on race day than it is the rest of the year.

Next years B1K is the La Paz race. Not someplace I'd want my 16 year old to race his first Score race.

Did the 07 1k and the drive home from Cabo was the scariest part.

Nice!
For peoples info - Robert raced '07 Baja 500 and 1000, finished both with decent times, learned a valuable leson while preruning for 500, understands how these events go 'down', focused, smart guy.
RL - to answer your question, I believe they require 16 yr just because the riders have to go on fed. highways. That's not saying people don't enter at younger age...

For the last 3 years we have helped my friends team pit and i think my dad is just torturing me!!!

Did the baja 2000. Our team totaled a new F350 near Santa Rosalia when the driver feel asleep and one of our other trucks had the side mirror torn off and put through the drivers window by a semi.
I felt safer in the TT then on the freeway!
What ever you do make sure he has a sat phone and knows how to use it.
good luck!

I'm glad you heard that from Cycle News and not from here.

Banned, you're right, the pops is torturing you, but not to death.
Patience is worth a lot, especially these days.

Maybe there should be no minimum age per se,

But Instead...

If you're old enough to write some decent sizeed checks, your old enough to race the BAJA 1000.

Trophy trucks, out in the middle of nowhere by themselves, foreign country, add to that the cost factor I'm with the 18 and up opinion as a parent - not sure rule wise though.

Your pops sounds like me. Hahaha
He has been less worried about you breaking a leg than he is of your mom if you break a leg. ouch.
Anyway, your 19 now and if you come up with enough pesos and centavos I know he will let you race SCORE (or CODE or RECORD)
