I have a 2007 WR450, all stock.

Can I safely add a heated vest for riding in the cold?

It is a TourMaster Synergy vest, and the power draw for my heated vest is 52 watts.

I am not an electronics guy, so any help would be appreciated. I do not want to overload my bikes charging system.

The WR450 charging system is minimal. It puts out about 25 watts most of which is consumed charging the battery. If you want to add something like heated gear your going to need to upgrade your stator and convert the bike to full DC. Not a huge task but probably not one for the electrically challenged.
