I just put a new ring, new base gasket and one new o ring, the inner one on my yz 144. I also sprayed carb clean on the power valves and repacked the silencer.

After this was all done I got the bike running but had a high ide. The idle would also slowly go down then just slightly up again at times. Also when starting the bike cold the first time it turns over it just sounds so weird and bogs and dies. Once I turn it over agin its fine.

The bike runs fine while riding as in power wise. What I am wondering is before I did this work, I got a nice popping noise out of my bike like all 2 stokes have. Now I mainly get a whining nose with little pop. Is this normal or is something wrong? The bike just don't sound right to me and I wonder what I should check. At idle I am even getting little pop. I hope this makes sense. I am assuming this problem is tied into my high idle after the rebuild which by the way, I did lower my idle down.

its probably running a bit lean, does it seem hot while running? you may just want to check the jetting. im not sure how the rebuild would affect jetting. was it properly broken in? maybe you have an air leak after putting the carb back on if you had to tear it apart. check those.

any other thoughts people?

Yeah it was broke in proper. I did not have to tske the carb off but looks like I may have to now. I was thinking the same either lean or air leak but I don't get why all of the sudden it lean after rebuild

I have an old ATV that revs up sometimes like that. A friend told me it might be an air leak.

That sounds like an air leak to me. Check for any air leaks around the carb. Make sure all connections are tight. It wouldn't hurt to spray carb cleaner through the pilot/main/choke orifices either since dirt may have been sucked in through the air leak.
