Today I had a rather alarming incident that was brought to my attention when me and the girlfriend were going to see a movie.

We were leaving the house after getting dressed and having a shower and opened the front door to find my girls check book in front of the door. She immediatly said that it hadn't fallen out and that it was in the center console of her civic and ran to her car to check it out. The trunk was wide open and the drivers door opened, there was nothing damaged cause she left her door unlocked.
The manual for the car that was in the glove box was sitting on the passenger seat, and there were miscellanious odds and ends strewn upon the interrior. We thought that it was very very strange and she suddenly was like "oh my god" and opened the garage door...

My bikes were still there...

PHEW

In the end we figured that they were either just punk kids ****ing around, or it was someone else looking for something specific... I was ****ing pissed to say the least because I figured that they were probably in the middle of grabbing the garage door opener when someone spotted them or they got scared, dropped the checks on the ground and ran. I figured a neighbor put them at our doorstep.

Our neighbors are really good, and the area is pretty good but now I'm not to sure about the area. I figured that they probably were going to steal the garage door opener and come back later.

I took the opener and told her not to leave it in the car anymore, I'll keep it in my jacket only and she doesn't use the garage anyways. I went inside and locked all the windows, shut all the blinds and put a nice padlock on the garage door, no way they were going to open it without someone noticing. I locked my gun room and hid the key too, as that's the last thing I needed was a stolen gun, or to come home and find someone with one of my guns in my face cause I was home un-expected.

I went and talked to all the neighbors and told them what happened, and warned them to lock their stuff up. I was informed that there have been a few break ins in the area just around the corner, one a house the other a car. Obviously someone is targeting my area.

I would have loved to catch the ****er in the act in the car, I would have stood on the porch, racked the shotty and the sound alone would have made him/her shit thier pants. If I ever catch the ****er, I'd confront him and take his I.D., tell him that I now know where he lives, who he is, and if he ever came around here again he'd be real sorry.

Has anyone had any similar stories?
Does anyone have any advice?

I don't have an alarm system, can't really afford something like that, best I can do is leave the outdoor lights on at night and keep my sleeping light. I'm surprised I didn't hear anything last night as I am a very light sleeper.

Jeeez! I would have been pretty freaked out!

Thank God the bikes were ok! :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:

I think if you keep a careful eye on your house and car in the next few months and keep doing what you said, you should be fine.

I hope it doesn't happen again!

Dude, as soon as she mentioned the garage and hit that button on the opener my heart was just PUMPIN...

As soon as I saw the blue, I was relieved, then I saw the grey, and was fully relieved. As long as I could see the color blue I didn't care lol.

Chain your bikes to something solid in your garage.

We have pretty good neighbors too. he was telling me when we first moved in that he woke one night to 2 people in his garage attempting to make off with his Ducati and the Husky. He grabbed the baseball bat next to the washing machine (convenient I know!) and chased them, couldn't catch them due to him being fat and slow, so threw that bat and slogged one of them in the head and knocked him to the ground. Picked up the bat and took to the blokes left knee so he couldn't run away why he called the cops. Needless to say the thiefs mate left him to be delt with!
The cops asked what happened to the guys knee that was shattered, and my neighbor casually says, "he must of fallen over". Not one to mess with my neighbor. He has never left his garage door open since iv lived here!

Is anyone else just really sick of this s#$T?? I mean, you work hard for what you have only to have these scumbags trying to take something just because they can and knowing even if they get caught they will be out of jail in less than a month because of our over populated jails. I may sound harsh & crazy on this but if we would just start taking VERY strong actions like cutting one finger off for the first offense, then a hand for the second offense and then their frigging head if they still decided to be a thief!! Sorry for the rant but it seems our theft rate in the US is only getting worse while our laws are only getting more lenient.

scary stuff. I've had my truck broken into b.c. I left the doors unlocked one night accidently and they stole 3 or 4 bags of gold jewelery we had all labeled and ready to go to cash for gold...lol. That though is the main reason I have no garage door opener in my truck or my fiances suv. It's just too easy of a way for crooks to get into the garage where the goodies are!

My car got broken into last winter and after they trashed everything the only thing they stole was my sirius.(which is useless cuz i called in the ESN and notified the cops) Sirius told me they will red flag the esn and if anyone activates it they will let them but notify the cops so they can bust them and they wont think anything is up.
Anyway, I was furious and contemplated all kinds of different things. But in the end we double check all the locks and keep spot lights and motions lights on now. I lock and cover my bike and when I get up for any reason i check on it.
My thoughts on the guns tho...obviously u dont have the only one, but these guys are low rent...they r breaking into cars not doing home invasions... if alot of people in your area start getting guns thrown in there faces then Id worry that these f!@#$s mite have guns too. But that cocking sound of a shotty speaks volumes, lets just hope they dont stick around to hear the other sounds it makes.
Good luck bro

yesterday night while my mom and sister were home alone, someone decided to break our screen door and kick our front door before taking off. My dirtbikes, laptop and digital camera were in the garage, which was left open, and none of it was touched. Needless to say I was p****d. I live in a upscale neighborhood but the trash isn't far up the road. I took the garage door remote out of the car last night before this thread was posted! What a coincidence.

I always install a separate door bolt on the inside. Then lock it. And I unplug the door opener if I'm not using it. I use a sliding bolt like businesses use on solid doors. They are cheap and effective. I drill a hole in the channel of rollup doors and simply put a nut and bolt in. A lock would work there too. cheaper and easier... If there is a side door I install a dead bolt lock, keyed on both sides. When I had a big mean dog I used to let him sleep in there at night.
I'm a freak about it but I've had my FUN stolen before and am not about to have it done again so easily. I'm not rich and it took me years to replace my stuff.
A friend had his dirt bikes stolen at Glamis while they were sleeping. Can you imagine sneaking into someone's camp and stealing their bikes? I don't know anyone who goes to the dez without a gun. But it makes sense because there is so much drinking out there i doubt people are sleeping light...

When we poured the floor of our garage I bought some big ass heavy duty chain and sunk it in the concrete. I use this to chain everything down. Also, we live out in the country, and everybody around here knows I only call the Law to collect the bodies.

I dont mess with your yours...Dont mess with mine.

^nice :D

I don't believe that someone deserves to die because they're stealing, however when they're un-invited on YOUR property, you really should have NO IDEA what to expect. You have no idea why they are there, what there motives are, or how irrational they may be, what they're packing etc. Point being, there's nothing wrong with defending your property with a gun.

I want to mount something in the concrete, what can I drill in there that I could use to chain something down to? I could use a dremel to cut off the edges of a bolt head too so they could not be removed.

i don't believe someone deserves to die for stealing either, but if they're stealing from you do you think that they're gonna think you don't deserve to die for defending what you've rightfully earned? i'm sure a theif will be just as quick or quicker to use force on a homeowner as the homeowner would be on them.

A couple weeks ago, my son hops on his DRZ to go for a ride. He starts it up, and finds oil spraying all over. He immediately shuts it off, looks down, and to his disbelief some ********* stole the clutch cover and bolts! This bike was outside, but right beside his house. Not a good thing to do to someone who works in a gun store!

You guys are starting to get me worried. My bike sits in a shed with no door. All that hides it is a few sheets of plywood leaning on it.

LOCK THAT BIKE UP!!^^^^

The least you can do is get yourself a chain and a padlock and wrap it through the frame and around something, even a hole through the shed wall. Anything to make it difficult for them, or to make it become a loud noise that you can wake up to.

That would have to be one loud noise, My sheds over 100 yards from my house. Hope if it would ever be stolen my parents house insurance would cover it.

Maybe I'll just throw a chain through the rear wheel.

I sunk a concrete bolt ( dynabolt) into my garage floor then put the biggest chain i could find over the protruding bolt and wound on the nut brfore welding the chain and nut together now they will need a REALLY BIG pair of bolt cutters or a angle grinder to get my bikes...a cop friend of mine told me to put the chain inside a plastic hose so the jaws of the bolt cutters wont fit over the chain links and the chain doesnt scratch your rims

I just looked up dynabolts and that's perfect. I'll make a mount for the bike specifically, thanks
