08 wr450f clutch noise

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I recently bought a new 08 wr450f and have followed the break-in instructions from the manual. This is new to me, as I have always bought used bikes. I now have well over 500 miles on this bike, and I still notice a clutch noise (slight rubbing sound) when the clutch lever is pulled in. The clutch and the gears are fairly smooth, so no problems with functionality. My brother rode it and noticed the same noise. Should I be concerned, or perform any checks, or is this normal for this bike and with new bikes?

Completely normal, new or old engine.

It's normal that they make a growling sort of rattle at idle in neutral with the clutch lever released (out). That's just the transmission being rattled around by the single cylinder firing nature. But the OP said it makes this noise with the lever pulled IN. That is not normal, unless the bike is still in neutral at the time. Shouldn't really make any clutch noise in gear at at standstill.

I recently bought an '08 450 and have noticed a "slushy" sound in the transmission occasionally when I come to a stop and shift to neutral. It changes a little when I pull the clutch lever but is still there. Oil is clean and at the right level so I guess it is normal, I'm just paranoid of noises like that...

It is in multi lingo so pick the one you can read also I think it is geared toward EU bikes.
