Does anyone else have any problems with handguard inserts that go into the bars? The moose ones are the two pices of threaded pipe and kind of slide up against each other and onto the inside of the bar. Mine ALWAYS come loose even with locktite, and I've already lost a pair, so right now Im without handguards.

Im trying to think of a more permanent solution or some solution that works WAY better than the stock setup. I was thinking of finding some pipe thats pretty close to the inside diameter of the bars, threading it, and jb welding it inside the bars, and finding a bolt to match the thread. If that makes any sense.

Opinions needed:thumbsup:

How do you lose the bar insert?

I replaced my Cycra ones with Aceribis ones that hold real well. Though your wedge should be holding better then you are describing....hmmm. I still don't know how you lost the wedge. It is inside your bar AND the bolt holding the wedge is going through the barkbuster. I can see it slipping so it rotates but not enough to lose it. Wierd.

while i was riding it the bolt completely backed out. I was having problems with the inserts loosening so every ride i checked to made sure it was tight and snug, and the next thing you know im puled over on the side of the trail because the bolt is gone and the inserts are gone. and my handguard is just hanging. happened to both sides. after i put blue loctite on them.

Ill take a look at the acrebis ones. Or maybe im just better off getting a whole new handguard setup.

honeslty you are just talking about the clamping problem if the guards are ok I would leave them.

You just need new outside mounts.

Try an insert like this: http://www.motorcycl...-Handguard.aspx

Different than the wedge Moose offers. I think that insert I linked to is close to the Acerbis one I have.

I just used the ones from the acerbis kit for standard size bars. Then you just need to file the nut part down enough to fit inside. Then pound the thing in with hammer until flush. I did this and they will never come out again, but they don't ever come loose.

Never had a problem with Acerbis ones, and never used loctite on them - just make sure they're done up REALLY REALLY tight.

Good 'ol Spud comes through.
A little trivia.. Spud (owner of Spudbilt) runs our local harescramble series here in S.W. MO. His method of trail building for the races even bears the moniker "Spud Cut".
Anyway, on 4 bikes with Acerebis, Cycra, and now Moose handguards, 7/8 bars and fat bars, I've never used any form of locktite and never had one the 2 slider parts come loose. That is strange that your having so much trouble with 'em.
