i have had mine for 4 months now and want it to last a real long time. Can you just void the obvious engine oil and tell me what other oils there are to change, what oil i should get, and how long i can go on them.

tranney oil i know, which in my truck is still bright red, how long can i go on that? In diesels i have heard you are NEVER supposed to change the tranney oil, but this aint no diesel. basicly there is a rear dif and a transfercase, but i dont know what oil to use in thoes, or how long i can go, dont ever know how to change them so feel free to tell me where the drain and check bolts are! thanks. and can i do the tranney oil myslef or do i have to take that in?

its a 02 1500 silverado 4X4

Regarding the fluids in your gasoline unit, 50,000 miles is a good number in the diff's and transfer case if you go with synthetics and are not beating it too hard. Your owner's manual will have the factory intervals. If you did not get the manual, your local dealer can give you a copy of that page. . Don't forget the power steering, brake and cooling fluids.

Whoever told you that diesel's should never have the trans fluid changed doesn't know what they're talking about.

On my vehicle's, I change automatic transmission oil annually, regardless of mileage.

I found this maintenance interval schedule-

30k change diff fluid, T-case fluid, and flush antifreeze, etc.

do you have an owners manual ? all the preventative maintenance is covered in the owners manual . their are usually detailed charts with the types of lubricant they want you to use along with other types of preventative maintenance aside from just changing oil .

previous owners usually leave them in the glove box.

or just use the chart chicken hauler found you :) what a champ .

no i dont have the manual, thats mostly why i am asking.

yeah we though the "dont change tranney oil on a diesel" was BS too, so we changed it and ever since first gear has been slipping 50% of the time in our 7.3, 90% of the time with a load on.....

They use the same tranny on gas motors lol.

If you get a problem after a flush, the tranny was already junk. But instead of fixing it 1000 miles from home because you didnt know and went on a road trip, now you can get it fixed at a shop at home that you trust...its win win

Also, you use ATF in your tranny and tcase, 90wt in your differentials.

BTW if you had a stick with a diesel you would nearly never have to change the oil in it...... So long as a manual is full your usually good....
