somewhere in my driveline there is a squeak, it kinda sounds like there is a rock in the brake rotor or something (i know thats not the problem, just to give you a idea) when the truck shifts it stops for a split second (because of no torque obvioulsy) the when its shifted it starts right back. it can be heard pretty easlily in town but you cant hear it on the highway, i was thinking a joint is out or something, i checked each joint for play and could not find any then i sprayed wd-40 on each one one at a time to see if that that stops anything and nothing, i noticed a little bit of oil drizzle comeing from the transfer case where the shaft comes out, could a worn seal cause the squeaking cause i am pretty sure that seal, if oil is coming outs its got to be out.

its a 02 1500 silverado

you might want to try grease in the u-joints .wd-40 won't even get passed the grease seals .a blown t-case output seal won't make a squeak , if its a bad leak check the fluid level in the t-case .

does it constantly squeak as you go down the road ? can you hear it with the windows up ? all the gears ?

does it do it more or instantly if you stomp on the throttle in first gear ?

try jumping in the box and shaking the truck when its not moving . springs like to squeak .

it could be anything , it took me a while to figure out a recent squeak . turned out a bumper mounting bolt sheared and the bumper was wiggling .

it could be anything . start with putting grease in your u-joints .

agreed. I had a terrible squeak in my truck a few months ago and I could have sworn it was the U-joints. But they didn't have any play what so ever. Unfortunately I didnt have the ones with grease fittings so I just replaced them to be safe and that was the problem. Only reason I kind of knew was after it squeaked for a little while it started to get some slop when I put it in gear.

I just had what sounded like the same squeak, that actually turned into more of grinding noise at times. Would be noisy when driving the truck at first in the morning but would quit making noise after it was driven for a few miles and warmed up. I first thought it was worn out brakes because sometimes just using the brakes would cause it to make noise, but it turned out to be the driveshaft hanger bearing, the cushion was collapsed allowing the driveshaft flange to rub on the hanger bearing metal housing. The truck is an ext cab 2wd silverado.
Thats a 4WD, if it has a two piece driveshaft with a hanger bearing check that out.

I went through 5 u-joints and a drive shaft on my 99 silverado z71. Might be one of those. My OEM U joints were not greasable though. I had them replaced with greasable ones.

yeah like the other guys said they are no greaseable. dont really know how to check the fluid in the T case, idk where the check bolt is, the thing did not come with a manual, only had it for 3 months. The faster i go the less i can hear it, mostly because of road noise i am guessing, and ya with the windows up too, most just in the first 2 gears, other than that i am going to fast. yess its a lil more intense if i stomp on it. its not springs or anything, (would a spring quit squeaking when it shifts then start right back in again when its done shifting, i dont think so) ow and as i go faster the squeaking speeds up, because the driveshaft is speeding up. thanks guys, might have to take it in tho, but i am not giving up yet

it's probably just u-joints , remove them take the caps off and jam them full of grease or go but new ones .

you only need a hammer and a 1/2" socket set to remove u-joints . if your not comfortable with it take it to a shop .

the t-case level plug / fill will be around mid height of the t-case probably around 1 1/4 or 27mm something along those lines . its generally the only great big bolt you can take out and put your finger in the hole to check the level .

there are u-tube video's and tonnes of write up on google on how to replace a u-joint . also like some one else mentioned , check your steady bearing if your truck has one . it will be around mid of your driveshaft , again you might not have one some vehicles don't

Seen this plenty of my times as a career tech by trade. It usually means a failed u joint. Remove the prop shaft, move each joint on its axis, you will have a stiff joint beyond greasing.
