My crash 3 weeks ago that broke my upper left arm also left me with very large hematoma on my left side. It was completely black and blue but is now back to regular color. It doesn't really hurt; it's just kind of like a grapefruit sized lump just above my waist. Several doctors have looked at it, and I've gotten CTs and bloodwork which confirm it's nothing serious... but how long until this gets smaller?

a couple more weeks, if memory serves me well. If you have numb spots at point of impact, they might stay that way.

I had a hematoma on my hip... It was easily noticeable for over 3 months.
After the 3 months it wasn't easy for others to see... But I could see it and easily feel it there, for over 6 months before it had completely gone away...

I had a big'un on my left hip a couple years ago. I fell twice in one day on the same spot in the rocks. It swelled up to where it looked like I had a fat wallet in my left pocket. I had called the doctor after two weeks, but it started going away that same day, so I postponed the appointment, and it was nearly gone in another week. The skin is still a bit flabby there, but it is all better now.
I bruised from my beltline all the way to my heel, and the whole left hemisphere turned dark purple.

I had a hematoma on the inside of my right knee from getting hit by another rider in a desert race. It was big enough that my pant leg had to be cut to get at it. The worst was gone in 2-3 months, but the scar tissue was present in a knot for about a year.

Thanks for the replies. It's been a little over 5 weeks now and it still looks about the same. I think it's getting more of a bruised color to it, which my Dr. said it would do as the body absorbs it. I'll just have to wait it out I guess. I've been putting a heat pad on it a couple times each day, too.

After awhile that black/blue/greenish starts working it's way down your body. By the time mine was all done, most had settled from my knee down into my foot/ankle.

Well, figured I'd post an update...
It's been almost 14 weeks, and the hematoma is about the size of a golf ball. It's been that size for at least a month I think. It's no longer noticable/visible, but it is definitely still there. Big improvement over how it was initially, where it was visble even with a sweatshirt on!
