Team 103x Consisted of Bill Boyer, Nick Blais, Stuart Goggins, Erek Kudla, Ryan Kudla

Race day finally came after tons of preperation, time and money, it was finally here! We were up at 4:15am getting everything loaded and headed out to our spot. There was a ton of traffic all through the city and all the way to KM 19 where we turned off and headed to the Arches. Got there and Quinn Cody was parked right across from us so we went over to hang out. He offered some oatmeal and I couldn't say no. Only was able to take down a few bites and ended up giving it to a dog that was tied to a post for what looked like all night. "the worst thing about mexico is how they treat their animals, it makes me sick" - Quinn Cody

Got to watch Robbie come through on the 1x bike followed by some other pros and Kendall Norman who had already made up a few seconds on him at that point. Then it was time to get ready to hop on the bike and do what I came to do. Bill yelled over the radio "I'M COMING!" so i got ready to get on and we made the change in just a few seconds and I was racing ... Finally.

There is nothing in the world like racing Baja. 100s of people every where on the course, cheering you on and taking pictures. We're in the middle of absolutely no where on the top of a mountain range at 7am and there are a few hundred people with camp fires wrapped in blankets watching you fly by.
Prerunning makes the biggest difference because I was able to fly over rises and around corners knowing that there was nothing to worry about, even though you're always ready for a trap of some sort or a spectator standing to close to the course.
But knowing where I was going made everything 100x better. there was a big rise at RM 50 or so with tons of people and I knew, even if they made a trap, I would land waaaay past it. Hit the rise at 60+ mph and flew more then 100 ft past all the spectators.
Got to the first Honda pit and they said the next 450 Pro was 20 seconds ahead so I charged as hard as I could through the huge wash. A helicopter started following me through the area and I was glad I'd been through there before otherwise I probably would have looked like a spode (even though I did) and was able to make several passes on Class 22 bikes that were in between us.
made it through the 60 miles in about an hour and ten minutes and handed it off to Stuart. We were running 11th Overall and 3rd in class when he left. I had a great run and from the sound of it so did the rest of the riders.
we loaded up and headed back to the hotel, got changed and went down to watch the trophy trucks start. that was very awesome. I've seen them finish but never start. All of us were in awe at how fast these guys went through the streets with hundreds of people just inches away.
Then we had some awesome tacos at Paco's Tacos right next to our hotel and headed back down the San Vicente at RM 530. Got there at 1:30 and had one hell of a wait on our hands. Parked next to the SCORE officials where they had a grill and were making 'GOAT' tacos. Had one and it was pretty darn good!

1x came through at 4:47pm with 12x coming through at 4:48pm so Honda already had the lead at that point on adjusted time as they started 3 minutes behind them. then it was a loooooong 45 minute wait until 18x came through and then another 30 minutes until 11x made it through.
We were hanging out with a Canadian Father and Son Duo who had come down just to spectate. They worked at a mission about an hour south of there and had never seen the Baja 1000 so they were hanging out and asking a ton of question about everything and his 4 year old son kept hopping on our spare bike. He helped flag Ryan down with a glow stick as well and was really stoked to get to hang out with us.
102x had a HUUUUUGE lead on us at this point, about 30 minutes, and then 400x and 100x were about a minute apart and 13 minutes ahead of Ryan who pulled in after being stuck behind the #8 pre-runner for the last 15 miles of a section he never got to pre-run.
When he came in we had to check the oil really quick and we were out in under 40 seconds then I was on the highway for 2 miles and was freezing my butt off. Once I turned my helmet light on I realized it was pointing way down. Its attached with Dual Lock tape so I tore it off and tried to put it back on while riding. I had to stop right when I got off the freeway and a ROVER came out of the darkness!!!
"Are you okay?" "yeah I'm fine" "where is everyone??" "I have no idea" "you're 9th overall" "SWEET!" and I was off. I was bent on catching the 100x so I rode like a bat out of hell all the way to the beach. hit the 1st straight rd. and saw a pit to my left and glanced over then all of a sudden there was a turn. I was hard on the brakes and slammed ito the burm and right on the other side was a huge cove with waves crashing on jagged rocks... VERY SCARY!!!
I just kept going all the way to highway at RM 600 where I got on the Radio "I'M COMING! I've really got to pee!!!" and Angie replied on the radio "JUST PISS YOURSELF" "I'm not gonna do it" "Just do it!" "how far ahead is 100x" "2 clicks" "NO HOW FAR AHEAD" "35 Seconds!" "I GONNA GET HIM!" I passed by them at the market in Santa Thomas where Ryan was suited up in case I had to get off and hit the trail.
I could see his dust and I knew my section, and it was just Gorman where I had grown up so I was more at home then anywhere! I got over the first mountain range and could see his light on the other side and kept catchin and catchin and then the unthinkable happened... HE STOPPED TO PEE!!! I couldn't believe it! I blazed past him and charged as hard as I could all the way to Nick Blais.
My helmet light died about 30 miles before I got off because we didn't completely charge one of the batteries, one of the ladies unplugged it to curl their hair... but that LED light put out more then enough light. I could see the team just ahead on the otherside of a huge ditch. I hit it going about 30 mph and launched nearly 15 ft. out of it and skidded into the pit where Nick hopped on and took it to the finish...

We stopped right next to the finish and a local promptly SLAMMED into the back of us! Nothing happened to the truck, but their car was completely destroyed! The windshield broke, the radiator was pouring water out, it was messed up. Everyone looked and I jumped out, vaulted over the barrier and ran up to the team!

We finished 2nd 450 PRO and 8th Overall and we were stoked!!! we went to Pacos Tacos, all had beers and tacos and papas and were out till 1:30 AM. Hit the hay like no other and got more sleep then we got the entire week. Woke up, walked around town, watched some trucks, bikes, quads, and buggies limp in then loaded up and headed home.
Stopped at our big breath out resturant in Puerto Nuevo called the the Rosamar and got a huge pile of Lobster Tails and Sean, our Road dog, bought an entire case of Mexican Cola for the ride home.

We raced to the border and made it across in under an hour!!! We didn't get rapped, we didn't get robbed, we didn't get held up... WE HAD A BLAST!!! We had tons of tacos, beers, Cokes. We rode a ton of miles, drove almost 700 miles, spent a hand full of cash, made a ton of good memories, made a ton of good friends, and had an experience you could never have anywhere else.

I would like to thank a TON of poeple! First Stuart Goggins for getting us down there! Nick Blais for prepping the Race Bike and getting it all set up and ready to go. Then my dad for coming and working his butt off with Bill Boyer to get the lights and wheels and everything ready for the race bike. My brother for coming down and ruling his sections along with all the other riders on our team for keeping the bike off the ground and going fast!
Then i'd like to thank Angie Ngo and Sean Prentice for being our Road Dogs and driving everywhere and getting up at the butt crack off dawn with only a few hours of sleep. The Lynch Family and Goggins family, Lance and all the other chase crew people we had following us (I'm not the best with names).
I'd also like to thank Quinn Cody, Kendall Norman and Scott Dunlevy for talkin with us and hanging out a bit. Chuck Miller for the hand shake and well wishes. Honda Pits for keeping us filled up.
DIRT DIGITS for all our stickers and helping us represent!
Cyclops Motorsports for helping keep me on the trail in the dark.
