When letting out the clutch in 1st gear,it almost sounds like a grinding noise coming from the left side, and it only does it when the bike is cold. There must be some contraction and expansion of the metals, but how can i fix?

Drain the oil.
Pull the clutch cover off and look at the clutch.
Check the inside of the cover.
Most likely you will see where it is rubbing.

Thanks guys....but is it possible it could be the chain slipping on the front sprocket, and it only slips on certain teeth that are maybe a bit more worn, which is why it only does it sometimes?

Does your chain slip under all conditions? If so then it could be your sprocket/chain.
But, if it doesn't come off regularily then it's not the chain.
Take off the clutch cover. Snoop around... -BIG DAN:thumbsup:
