I bought a barely running 06 crf70 as a project for my son and me to break down-clean-give it a face lift and then end up giving it to him for Christmas. He thinks we are building it for someone else- kind of like the OCC episode!
Skip down to the *** for my question if you want to skip my short story!

First of all- everyone should spend $20 for a gal of "Evaporust". Stuff is amazing to soak any part in to remove rust and make it look like brand new (I'll upload some pics) especially a rusted chain! So, I had the bright idea with the bike taken apart was to hang it from the back swing arm, and put a gal ziploc bag around the head (Spark plug, valve caps and header removed) and soak it in Evaporust to make the head look nice and new and clean the valves and inside parts without getting that deep into it. I moved the crank back and forth to slosh the stuff opening and closing the valves. After a day- removed bag- dried with rag and air hose and then sprayed some throttle body cleaner in all openings to help clean up an carbon or other build up inside the head. I adjusted the valves at tdc to .04mm and put everything back together. Filled case back with Honda 10w-40 oil- put carb and everything else back and kicked it over. Started up after getting fuel thru the lines and blew out a lot of smoke thru the exhaust- but not blue oil looking smoke- more like a dirty cloudy fog. I let it idle, brought rpm's up and then back down and got better after about 10 min's but still pretty bad. Rode it up and down the street and feels like it has normal power and throttle response. No funny noises that I can hear coming from the engine.

*** I am thinking that there is still solution maybe inbetween the piston rings? Seems like a car with a blown head gasket. I will check drain and refill the oil. Should I keep running it and see if evenually clears up or is there something that I should do or check before causing any (more) damage.

Did you replace the gaskets and tighten the head bolts and valve cover to there proper torque it does not sound like rings if the rings where bad it would have little to no power i would check for a fouled out plug to

I didn't actually take the head off the block. I just ran it today and the moisture type smoke is gone- but now is left with an oil looking smoke when my son runs it up and down the street. With the engine warm- I pulled the plug and it looks black and dry. My manual says it's a carbon foul problem. I hooked up my compression gauge and kicked it over several time hard and got 95 psi. It seems to me like it is running too rich- but the carb is pre-set for the air-fuel mixture.
What is the normal psi I should get from this compression test?
I was going to do a compression leak down test but I need to make a fitting first. The hose fitting that I have only lets air travel one direction. Guy at local shop said to pump about 100psi for leakdown test at tdc and listen for any air leaks by exhaust, carb or oil plug.:banghead:

it should have a 9:1 COMPRESSION ratio so 95 psi sounds pretty good it does not sound like a compression problem it sounds like a head or valves problem. you should find out what it is with the leak down test
