Alright, I'm in the middle of collecting parts for a late winter BB and Hotcam rebuild (prolly Jan., as the weather here is still pretty nice, today upper 60s').
I have the cams, with the BB kit, MCCT, new cam chain ordered. I already have the TT FCR carb, Yosh TRC and the host of other common mods. So my question is what else do I need to be gathering, (will send the head to Eddie for a freshen up)? Gaskets and such, what do I need. Any help/suggestions, as I'm sure I'm overlooking something. BTW, the bike has 9500 miles if this matters, on a '05 SM. Thanks for any and all help, Rick.

Thanks for the input, however I'm wanting to know what parts I'll be needing.

exhaust manifold gasket , 94mm cylinder works BB kit , OEM cam chain , 2 litres of mineral oil , oil filter , sealant for the rocker cover gasket , you need to dial the cams in to suit , a shim kit so you can adjust the clearances after the valves settle in .

a quality torque wrench to tighten the head bolts to 42ft-lb .

clean the carb while its apart .

Go for the MRD instead of the Yosh, less money and flows better.

Since you have those parts on hand you should need little else unless you find worn or damaged stuff along the way.

Yes, sending the head to Eddie for a refresh or repair as needed is a great idea. At almost 10,000 miles,, I’d suggest you plan a new set of OEM valves and springs at the least.
If your BB kit came with a top end gasket set… your all set there, so two changes of oil and two filters at least one disposable, and coolant should do you.
I’d have a spare exhaust gasket on hand, as you never know what kind of condition that will be in once the old exhaust is removed.
Depending on what MCCT you may need a new gasket.
Have a new plug on hand.

Other than that, nothing I can think of, for just the install of the parts you have listed above.

Jets to suit the build? Eddie can supply them when he returns your head.

Thanks, for all the help. What about clutch/side cover gaskets, will I be able to reuse them? The MCCT is the TT store model, so there is a gasket I'll pick up. I think there is a exhaust gasket in the kit that came with the BB. Any other suggestions?

This is a fix, as in repair. Not a preventative deal. Most of these water pumps do not leak, some do and of those, if it is not leaking due to actual wear of the seal or shaft.. you can often fix the leak with the action above.

Bottom line, if the water pump is not leaking.. There is nothing to fix..

my opinion is .. if you know of a weakness you be pro active not re~active .

thats why we loctite the known fasteners and address other known issues .

if you know of a fault or a weakness due to wear and your bike has done a few miles then be pro active while it is apart .... or like me , you may have a leak occur just after you have rebuilt the motor .

i thought to myself ... OK , i have the opportunity to apply a tiny amount of sealant to the ceramic disk while its apart . and then i thought NO its not leaking so why fix it !

20 klms later it started leakin ' :foul:
