Recommended Posts

JUST BOUGHT A 03 WR 450. INSTALLED A GYR PIPE INSERT,YZ THROTTLE STOP,SKID PLATE,BARKBUSTERS AND A 13T SPROCKET. RODE IT ONCE AND SOLD IT. BIKE WAS A TALL HEAVY LOAD. WENT BACK TO A 03 KTM 525 EXC. THE TWO BIKES ARE NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENT. SORRY FOR THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK.

Just read a TROLL post. Farted in his general direction :D and left this comment:

Fred, Tom or Miss Minnie,

A search of your posts shows that you have tried to sell an 02 CRF450 and an 02 520KTM for $5,000 each under different names. Now a 03 WR450 that you can't ride. ?

:D

Per Yamaha and KTM web sites:

525EXC: Seat height=36.4" Weight: 260.6#

WR450F: " =39.2 " : 245#

Seat height may be tall but 15+#'s less underneath it. My buddies EXC with a 540 kit and pipe gets SPANKED by our WR's up a hill. A $9,000 bike should beat a 426 up a hill right? Too bad the 450 doesn't have 6 gears so we could go 108mph. ?

:D Now you guys can't be that sensitive calling a guy a troll because he complained it was too tall. I ride my buddies WR450 from time to time and at 5' 10" it rides a little tall to me. Even more so for my 5'8" buddy. Really the only time I notice is when going slow or when I stop to put my foot down. Overall it's not a bad bike. ?

Not sensitive about a WR at all. ? Just the history of his posts and the tone of the current post. There is a big difference between riding a friends bike and buying a bike. With all of the experience gained from owning a KTM and CRF don't you think the seat height factor would have been taken into consideration. Look at the post history. How many contributions can you count?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but, Man he must be made of $$$ I can't imagine the hit you would take buying a bike and selling it after one ride. BTW have you tried to find an 03 525 ? They sell for sticker if you can.

According to the recent test in the May'03 Dirt Bike mag, the 450EXC (same weight as the 525EXC) weighs less than the WR450. Re: Hill climbing. Rider ability probably has as much to do with hill climbing success as the bike. Try running your WRs against a 540 through the gears on pavement.

What nobody seems to mention is the those KTM's might be neat bikes, but boy are they UGGGGGLY! I could handle last years with the black fender and natural colored tank, but the all orange and gold frame this year is bad. I keep thinking I'll get used to it, but I'am sorry I just can't do it. Yes I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but if you think those bikes are good looking, you might be in need of some counseling. I showed them to my wife when they first came out and she said, "You would want that over one of those beautiful Yamaha's?". Riding one of those is like making love to an ugly fat woman, it might feel good, but you would'nt want anyone to see you on it.

FTD, while the WR450 is a good bike, it is not lighter than a KTM. In fact, it's quite a bit heavier, and feels it, according to "Dirt Bike" and "Dirt Rider," in recent tests. KTM won both mags' comparisons, and as "Dirt Bike" said so succinctly: "We have seen the future and it is orange."

Truth be told!!

That KTM is piloted by my youngest brother and TTR Pumpkinhead. I could keep up If I hit all the shifts. I could beat him if he had issues keeping the front end down. His KTM is basically stock with the AP mod done and mine is YZ timed and jetted,

Bottom line: 6-10 times the big cc's took the win.

:D?
