Which Stator?

Recommended Posts

I have a 1999 yz 400 and want to fit a dual sport kit to it. Baja designs web site say to use a wr426 stator but dont mention which year. So can someone tell me exactly which stator and fly wheel I would need?

I have found a stator and flywheel for sale here off a 2002 wr 250 which has the same part number as the parts off a 2002 wr426. Would it fit?

Thanks

Pete

You'll need a '00 WR400F/'01-'02 WR426F/'01-'02 WR250F stator. Part number 5NG-85560.

You should be good with a flywheel off a '98-'02 WRF (250/400/426).

Should be a direct bolt on.

The current listing for a 2000 WR400 is 5GS-85560-50-00 for the stator. An '01-'02 shows the 5NG-85560-00-00 (5NG-85560 is an incomplete part number). These two should interchange, but the 5NG...50 is likely to be an upgrade over the 5GS.

The flywheels also show two different numbers for a 426 and 400, with 5BF-85550-00-00 listed for the '98-'00 400, and 5NG-85550-00-00 for the '01-'02 426. These may interchange, although you should check carefully, and you may want further confirmation. If I had to simply guess what the difference was, I'd imagine it had to do with the greater electrical compatibility of the flywheel and stator as a set.

Improved magnet?

just a little did bit of info that i feel like i should input. about a year ago a buddy of mine's 03yz450f was having stator issues and didn't have the money to buy a yz450 stator. luckily i happen to have a 1998 yz400f stator laying around and and we compared them. The two were exactly the same so we installed the 400 stator onto the 450 and it has been running and charging the bike for at least a year. i am wondering if, since this worked why wouldn't it work the other way?
