Im sure this one is an easy fix just wanted to get perspective on those who already did it.

I have started to replace the bars of my 2003 klx. the bars are some random chromoly bars that the last onwner threw on. I am replacing it with some protaper aluminum bars. as I started to mount them i realized the old bars had holes drilled in them for keeping the electric start and light controlls in place. the back end of these caps has a insert to fit into these holes.

those of you who switched your bars, did you drill holes in the new ones or file off the insert in the clamps on the control units? Would prefer not to drill holes in my new bars for fear of f'ing it up. Suggestions?

Choices:

1. Get new handle bars controls
2. Find out where you want to mount the stock controls and drill appropriate hole.
Edit: Not Recommended should have added this note previously "do the search" Should not have assumed the obvious in my original post

3. This is what I did. I filed down the Nubs on the stock controls leaving maybe a 1/16" added some grip tape them reinstalled the controls. I did this around 4000 miles ago and my controls have not moved!!

Don't drill the bars, just remove the nubs.

DO NOT DRILL HOLES. There are a lot of reasons, and if you really want to go into why, there are several TT users here that can explain it..

Bottom line..
File or cut off the plastic locating pins from the switches.. They will stay put just fine when you tighten them back down. If you have a loose fitting control, a single wrap electrical tape on the bar under that control is all you need.

Thats what I figured. Factory drilled is much different from workshop drilled. I will go with removing the nubs and electrical tape. as always thanks for the guidence
