New to me 2000 DRZ400S a noise question

I come from a BMW R1100RT and Suzuki DL650 Wee Strom. The RT not noisy, the Wee somewhat noisy with what sounds like valve clatter. But wow...the DRZ is unbelievably noisy, ear plug noisy. I know about replacing the cam tensioner with a manual one and this is going to happen. But the noise seems to be coming from the left side.

It is especially apparent when riding in third gear for prolonged periods. I have read through this and other forums and it seems that the engine on this bike is inherently noisy. But how noisy is it supposed to be? How do I determine whether this is a valvle adjustment issue or just normal noise?

Another question or concern is that the throttle doesn't seem to disengage when I roll it off. The engine stays revved up for a few seconds after rolling off or just letting go of the throttle tube.

Throttle response if very good in my opinion. The bike runs strong throughout the power band. It shifts well and easily. Jetting seems spot on, and the plug reads confirm this.

Any advice is appreciated.
