I reported this in the Husqvarna section tonight, but this gentlemen was as much in Baja, as he was in the southern deserts of the USA. In fact, much of what I know of Baja below the Sawmill, is what I learned from trips with Bill between 1980-1985 all over Baja California.
Bill Halbert, long time Husqvarna Parts Manager at Husky West, on Mercury Street in Kearny Mesa, has passed on from sudden onset cancer, yesterday, 11/14/09, around 12 noon. I received the phone call this afternoon about his passing.
He was well known back in the 70's/80's Husqvarna community, and in AMA D-38 desert as well. Names that come to mind of his friends were Mike Harper, Bill Howell, Ric Secor, Rick Finger, Rolf Tibblin, Niles U., "Bob Bitchen", Mark Blackwell, Bob Popiel, Larry Roseler, Scot Harden, Steve Sterner, Adam Padilla, Arne Grunner, Dick Burlson, Malcom Smith, Rob Bishop, Rick Finger, Bill Howell, Terry Cunningham, Mark Hyde, Paul something, his co worker there and fellow Score racer, and many, many more racers.
All stand up guys from my time and before/since. He later owned a small Husqvarna shop in Western Washington state for many years in the late 80s.
If you know how to contact anyone that might have known Bill or know how to get in touch with any of the above guys, please pass this along.
God Speed Bill. See you at Mikes someday!:ride:
