I'm not on the program but plan on getting on it as soon as I recover from ACL surgery (which I get tomorrow). I just want to make sure you're aware that they have message boards (just like these) specifically for the P90X program at www.beachbody.com --- If you ever need some assurance that the program is effective, check out the before & after photos thread on there....CRAZY, crazy results!!!!

not sure what is in there recovery drink but i am sure it is over priced and you can get the same if not better by making your own

pick up some protein powder. i prefer isopure brand it had tested out in lab tests the best as far as claims go and purest

then get some fast carbs like dextrose or waxy maize

put 2 scoops of protein powder with about 1/3 cup fast carbs in a shaker and mix with water. take right after your workout

I wouldn't spend the cash on the p90x recovery drink. Go to a nutrtion store or online and get some lemonlime cytomax. A lot of riders use the stuff before a ride and after and it tastes really good. I only mix about half a scoop to a large glass of water after a p90x workout. I only have 2 wks left of the program and feel like i got in better shape. Going to take about 2 wks more off then restart the program with heavier weights and try to put on some size.

Being a trainer myself. I am kind of skeptical about P90x. I know some people that do it and they aren't getting any results what so ever and they are following it to a T. A lot of that crap you get off of TV is a marketing scam. Yes they are in shape and yes there are some people that get results. But think about this, among the how many thousands that actually buy that program, a very small percentage, and I mean small are successful. And along with the products thta you need to buy as well. You can find the very same stuff at your local GNC and they cost a lot less. All you need for recovery is some really good protein and amino acids. Both are the buildings blocks for building new muscle. Go to a local gym or something like that and see what it would cost for the trainer to put together a program for you without getting sucked into a membership. Some will do it some won't. Im not a salesman so I hate the whole selling point at gyms. I'm a trainer and I want to help people, leave the sales to someone else. Good luck with your program I hope it works for you.

I have a very hard time with this. I don't care if you are just walking around the block. If you do it consistantly you are going to see results. Maybe their expectations are too high. For me it wasn't until about the eighth week that it really started to kick in.

There is nothing in this program that is magical. In fact they say it all the time. You have to MOVE to make this program work. They also say that this program is NOT for beginners. There is a pretest. If you cannot meet the minimum of this test they recommend that you don't start P90x until you can.

There is nothing special about this program if you aint into it. But that goes with any workout program. The thing that cought me with this program is that it has a beginning and an end (13 weeks). I compared my before and afters and very happy with the result. That's why I went through it twice.

I will agree that there are probably more people that quit or don't even start than finish P90x. That is probably true for the other 9 million other exercise programs on the market. I found a motivator. I was tired of dieing after 4 laps on the MX track and all the little nagging injuries from being so out of shape.

I agree, if you follow P90X to a T there is NO WAY you won't get results. It's based on working your ass off, nothing magical... I think it's an awesome program, and it's not just gonna bulk you up, but get you in overall great shape. All the stretching and stuff is great too I think, especially for our sport.

I'm currently doing the INSANITY program by beachbody, and I really like it as well. I really think all the cardio should help a bunch with riding. I'll admit, I haven't completed P90X, I've done it here and there but not committed and done a full round. I intend to do that after I complete Insanity, I think between the 2 programs I should be in awesome shape come next spring!

As far as the recovery drink, I personally love the stuff. It seems to help me feel more energized, and it tastes amazing. I'd recommend it, but it is a bit on the expensive side. To be fair, I looked at GNC and other places, and couldn't find a similar drink for much if any cheaper.

I've done the program 4 times. Well, make that 3.5 times. I made the mistake of starting it 2 months before Christmas the first time, and the holidays ruined me.

I did not use the recovery drink, nor did I feel like I needed it. I didn't follow their meal plans either, just found some websites forums for body builders and fitness experts and made up my own meal plans. There are foods considered "superfoods" that I ate a lot of during my routines.

My garage is set up for this program, and I've gotten several buddies hooked over the last couple of years. One of my buddies is an ex high school wrestling stud. It was kinda funny watching him run out of the garage puking at times for the first few weeks.

I would venture to guess that anyone who has gone through this program who has not had good results, that they probably half a@@ed their way through it.

I grew up working out for sports, later got paid to be in top physical shape for a demanding job, and have been a member of several gyms over the years. While all of them worked for me, I would say that P90x is the best workout program I have ever done. I will probably never do any other program-- it's that good.

I challenge anyone to put their all into this program and come back on here and say that it did not work.

Also, enjoy plyometrics day. It's the one workout that I dreaded more than any other.

PS: I'm just an inspector for a day job and am in no way affiliated with them.

PPS: I did the program twice in a row with just a few week break in between-- the results were outstanding.

I'm not on the program but I defy anybody to check out the before and after photos of people on P90X at www.beachbody.com and then tell me the program doesn't work. These photos are obviously NOT photo-shopped.

I too have done the P90X routine 2 times & also the P90X plus routine & feel I' ve gotten more out of these workouts than I ever have in a gym. Results are amazing if you stick with it. I never tried the recovery drink that they sell. I have tried just about everything under the sun over the years & found that lowfat chocolate milk with a hlf scoop of whey protien after workouts does an awesome job. Thats just my opinion, everyone's different

Doing it now for second time.

I think any low calorie protein drink/shake/mix (like Muscle Milk, etc or just making your own) is just as good for recovery as anything else. I typically have something within the hour following a workout and I notice when I don't (bonking, etc).

On a side note to the other posters...as for P90X being any different than any other program or being a scam because people didn't see results, I suspect the poster hasn't really been around it. I workout with 2 trainers and they love it.

Bottom line...how can push-ups, pull-ups, yoga, core, curls, etc be a scam? I think the only part that's a bit out of line is the Beachbody product sales (drinks, bars, etc) only because they're pricey but any of that can be had at a GNC or even a Safeway these days.

I ran a 24hr team race after almost exclusively doing weekly training rides (technical 20 miles per ride) and p90x and I had 4x the endurance I've ever had before and after finishing 125 miles during the race I was just getting warmed up :-)

AWESOME....thanks for the update. I have the set of DVD's but haven't cracked them open yet. I just had ACL surgery 7 weeks ago so need clearance from my surgeon before starting up...maybe Feb 1st for me.

Any advice on "stuff" I **NEED** before I start? Dumbbells, those exercise bands, etc?

Pull up bar. I perfer dumbbells. Push up bars are good cause you spend a lot of time on your wrists. And the desire to change what you see in the mirror!
