Have any of you had turkeys either attracted to or act aggressive around your motorcycles? Near my office there are a pack of wild turkeys. When they spot or hear a motorcycle they come running and puff up and strut around. Not sure if they are attracted or acting aggressively.

Today they followed me after I got off my bike. I think they would have come right in the building if I let them.

Maybe it is related to the helmet??? Anyway, just wondering if others have experienced this.

Ya, that is just wierd.... I hunt turkeys and would love to be able to get them to do that.... Can't see what it is about a motorcycle that would cause them to do that....they are actually pretty smart, and have really, really good eyesight.

Maybe you just have some confused turkeys....or maybe he's taken a couple of lead pellets to the head, .....very strange.

Nope, I've been lurking for a while...

Getting my son started with a KLX 110, I just moved to a DRZ400 to go ride with him.

Been having turkey problems for a while, just wondering if this is a common phenomenon...

Ive had coyote pups run down the road beside me but never had an attack of the angry turkeys.
That's cool, your son will love the time spent riding with his dad.

No joke, I really ran over a wild turkey while riding on some double-track trails a couple years back. Now, I really don't know if it was attracted by my bike. Anyway, I did experience a situation that involved a turkey and my motorcycle:lol:

That's definitely weird. They do that with other riders too? Maybe it's the sound.

Small dogs seem to HATE my DRZSM. Whenever I ride by they almost strangle themselves on their leash trying to get to me. It's gotta be the sound b/c I've never had this happen on my other bikes. Oh, and a little kid flipped me off the other day when I rode by. haha Seriously!?

the trails I ride a lot have a nice population of Turkeys (which is odd for this area of WA) We always end up with them all around us, not acting strange or aggressive. They seem not to fear out dirtbikes

When riding single track in southern Ohio, it's very common to come across wild turkey. Usually, they'll run, but once in a while you'll get a tom who puffs up and gets defensive/territorial with you. They won't attack or anything like that, but they'll pretty much stay on the trail until you're right on them then just step out of the way.

On a side note, we do have wild turkeys that hang out by my office as well. Pretty cool and certainly dispels the myth that they are skittish/scared animals. My office is in the suburbs of Columbus, not completely built up, but no significant undeveloped "forest" within a mile or so of us. Here's 2 pics of a tom by a UPS truck. BTW, he was gobbling at me and acting territorial as I took the pics with my cell phone. Sometimes he shows up with a few hens too.

I used to think that it must be the sound, but I am not so sure. They react that way with the DRZ and my Vstrom.

The other day a motorcycle cop (HD) had somebody pulled over and they ran to him when he stopped the car and followed him back and forth between his bike and the car window of the speeder.

If I get caught at the red light intersection, they will run from 50 yards away and puff and gobble like crazy while circling me until the light changes and I can make my escape.

It gets a little unnerving at times...

No idea, that's quite strange. FYI turkeys hang out in flocks, not packs. Just sayin.....

No joke I am like a magnet for anything with wings..especially when riding on the street my friends think its hilarious..I have ran over chickens, wild turkeys, one time a water grouse dive bombed me right in the face when I was going 125mph! it almost cleaned me right off the bike..not to mention it felt like getting a baseball bat to the face.I have been shit on numerous times by all kinds of birds but the worst is when a pelican shit on me.. man I was covered!one time when I was driving through Vermont I thought It was large bugs hitting my windshield like crazy but when I stopped for gas I probably had 100 little yellow birds smashed all over the front of my truck..it was a little freaky..
