I haven't gotten a programmer yet for my 2008 wr250x. I was planning on leaving it stock, but when i rode a buddy's, with a programmer, pipe & header, i noticed a definite improvement, especially in the low end.

So I picked up a header & pipe. I'd already opened up the airbox.. just a little.. the wr250's don't need it as much as some. I went on a ride this last week.. some steep mountain climbing.. lots of work on the engine. I was in 2nd or higher most of the time, but there were a couple of long steep sections i was in 1st.

Anyway, my question is, will a lean running condition damage the engine? How would i know if it lean to the point of damage? The wr's run premium fuel, & I was in the 3k-8k elevation range. Does the FI make any adjustments for increased air & less exhaust pressure? The us wr's don't have an O² sensor on them.

It didn't pop on decel any more than usual.. very little. It seemed to have as much power as my buddy's with the programmer. Do i really need the programmer? The bike seems to run great.. was it the elevation? I was planning on getting a programmer.. but am wondering if it's really necessary..

Thanks for any input.

depends on how lean it is.

you dont really, but bad running is a obvious sign.

nope, has no idea what you have done.it is still fueling exactly the same as it was on the stock bike.

still would not make the corrections.

if you want it optimum you would need a programmer and dyno tuning.

Thanks, Eddie.

It seems to me if it's not running bad, i can live with it being a little lean.

But maybe i'll go ahead & spring for a programmer.. maybe santa will bring me one. :)

Thanks again for your helpful advice.
