Hi

I have just upgraded my 6 year olds bike from a KTM50 to a 07 KTM65.
He has been riding since he was 3, however the KTM65 is still a little too tall for him. I intend to cut the seat down and lower the suspension.

My question is: the manuals do not mention lowering the forks, but there seems to be a lot of protential adjusting. How far can i lower them? There is a taper in the forks where this is obviously the limit?

Its approx 1.5 inchs, can I take it to this point.

Thanks
Gary

as long as the clamps are still on the level portion of the fork tube - before the taper, you can lower them - but do not go beyond the edge of the taper.

Thanks for that.

Another question:
The previous owner said he run it on 40-1, but the manual says 60-1.

Your thoughts

Thanks again

Hey Boss,

We run 40:1 in our 65.

Another tip I heard was instead of 300cc use 500cc oil for the tranny.

Great choice in bikes :smirk:

WOW, manual calls for 60:1 ? That's pretty lean. I thought 40:1 was lean.

1st thing I would do is have the thing sprung right for his weight. It only took seeing a wild head shake turn into a real bad get off for me. You start moving things around and the bike starts getting really squirrely.

Thankfully our 65 I bought had came from a rider my sons size. BUT his KX 85 was show room stock and not set up for a 65lb rider it was ugly real quick until I got the right springs.

Raising those fork tubes will cause head shake, the "whole" bike needs to be lowered the same amount. If you son is a beginner and just riding around the yard to get used to the clutch and stuff you'll be ok. It just changes if he's experienced and out on the track jumping and going into some knarley braking bumps.

Spoiled NO! I have a sign on my barn door that reads "selfish obsessions".

Not sure if this photo will work?
