Today I was washing my bike when I notice a little line going from where you put the oil in and the oil filter. Below is a picture, I had some issues with the camera not focusing so that's the best I got.

So you can kinda see what I mean. It's that little line between the oil filter and the black cap. Is this a serious crack that I should be worried about? How'd it get there and how bad would the damage be to replace the crank case on that side? My bike is a 2007 DRZ125L.

A quick bike bandit search says for the clutch cover (PRT #1475585-001) is $116. That doesn't sound to bad. Course then me and my dad would have to figure out how do it...

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like a casting mark and not a crack. Unless you see oil leaking from it I wouldn't worry.

I never thought of a casting mark. That's most likely what it is. I did see oil there a while ago after we changed the oil but I think it was some excess. If I see oil, then I'll know it's a crack so I won't worry about it for now.

personally spread a thin layer of silicon on it and call it good. It does look like a very small crack. There is no presure behind that cover so some silicon should keep any oil in.

My DRZ400 has lots of little casting marks all over the oil filter cover and the water pump area. I think it's pretty common and no big deal at all.

Gee....Hmmmm:thinking:......like this maybe?

:smirk:

Seriously though, like others said, looks like a casting mark. Don't spend $$ on it unless it causes problems.

Yea it's not a crack. I took that cap off where you pour the oil in and it stops. So if it was a crack, I'd imagine it'd go all the way through into where the cap threads on.

Haha yea the crash was the first thing I thought of when I saw the crack.
