I have an 06 basket case that the cam seized up in and needed to be replaced. Someone thought that it would be a good idea to completely disassemble the whole engine and put all the pieces into about 6 boxes and let them sit for about 6 months. So, I was just wondering what would be good to use to clean all the parts as I put them back together. I do not have a solvent wash.

Mineral spirits, available at most hardware/paint stores, is the closest commercial product available to automotive shop solvent (Stoddard solvent) that you can find.

Mix the old solvent in with your used engine oil to get rid of it.
