Ive been chasing a rich condition for a while and I think Ive got it where it needs to be. But I dont really know how long my run should be when I do a plug chop or exactly where I should be looking. Ive heard that you check the color of the porcelin inside the threaded end of the plug. Ive also heard that you only check the electrode so Im sorta confused.

I took the bike out warmed it up road for about 30 min almost trying to load it up and it did but cleared out very quickly. I did my plug chop run up through the gears wound out in top gear in about 300-400 yards. Killed the motor stopped and removed the plug. This is what I found. I could still see white on the inner porcelin but it was still a dark sootie color. The electrode was near the same color as when the plug was new but it has a faint dark tan circle near the end of the electrode. The bottom of the electrode where it is attached to the plug was dark. The threads on the plug where kinda oily but the bottom side of the plug was near dry, almost like somebody wiped it with a lightly oiled rag.

I know what a too lean plug (white/grey ashey) looks like and I know what too rich plug (dark sootie and oiley) looks like and think I know what it a good running plug looks like but what I experience this afternoon confuses me.

So if I could get some help with what I got going on Id be very greatful.

Ok Eddie here are those pictures that Ive been neglecting to get too. They kinda suck but I think you can see what needs to be seen. And I will narrate for you.

This plug as been run on for about an hour off and on. I just took the bike out today rode it for 15-20 min did my plug chop run infront of the house. (Just glad all my neighbors are at work)

The lighting is kinda poor and the electrode isnt really that dark of a tan but its close. The insulator color is near spot on. When I pulled it there was no oil to speak of on the bottom of the plug and just a little on the bottom of the crush washer and in the threads.

Actually the bike runs very well when im on the pipe. I went for a ride on this last sunday and it was running great when I was on the pipe. I think I figures out what my problem is. I ride mostly trails and single track and Im not very fast which is fine when Im by myself. But when I ride with better riders I push myself to hard and wear myself out. So when that happens I slow down and ride in the same gear that I normally would at faster speeds.

So what Im going to try to do is drop the jet needle one more clip as I found that Im spending most of my time riding at between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle not 3/4 to WOT. As we all know the Jet needle controlls 1/4 to 3/4 throttle fuel flow. So Im hoping the dropping the needle will help. If it doesnt then I will need to try and find a larger jet needle. Ive looked but Ive not had much success as my bike is near 18 years old. So if anybody has some input on where I might try to find a larger diameter jet needle for a 92 RM 250 Im all ears. I dont care to use the local Suzuki dealer here in town as they kinda expensive and take for ever.
