One Kidney?

If you were to give up a kidney do you think it would be wise to still ride? I've asked this question to my general physician and a surgeon who do not know or understand off-road riding or motocross, and got a few very fuzzy answers. Other than a possible impact is there a high risk of danger to the remaining kidney? I am told not to be involve in contact sports. Ok I can understand that part. No football. I'm 54 so that's probably not going to happen anyway. But then I'm told that horse back riding is ok. I understand that it will be an individual thing but if all goes well, should I still ride?

So what do you think? Anybody else riding with one kidney?

thanks

Craig

It is simple statistics...with two kidneys you always have the other if you have a bad get off and rupture one of your kidneys. Obviously, you dont have that luxury if you only have one. I would still ride if I have one kidney...

less internal organs to damage , some stunt men and other dare devils get there spleens removed so there is no chance of rupturing and bleeding to death .

hores back riding can be just as bad as dirt biking .

i would definitely wear a kidney belt or body armor or both .

sucks to loose one , i have definitely maxed out both of mine for about a year straight . but i assume there is a good reason to be loosing it .

Thanks for the feed back.

I ride with an EVS belt now but the body armor is a good idea. I'll have to look into who has a good set up.

I would double up your protection. You can lose internal organs from front or back impact. Undershirt armor plus outer chest protector is an option.
