I am putting a kx500 back together after a long time a part. I dont really know where to start other than a manual. I accidently chopped all the wires going to the "black box" in one clean swoop:banghead: can they be soldered back or should i start shopping! Any other tips to getting the big bad green machine alive please let me know.

You can solder them, personally I would look for a replacement. One questionable repair could turn into a long ass walk back to the truck. Those 500's didn't change much so I'm sure you have quite a few years that would fit. You just need to research part numbers.
Clear out a large area and lay all your parts out so you know what's what and group them into sub-assemblies. If you keep everything clean and organized you should be up and riding in no time.
