to rejet-or not to rejet?

Im having trouble making a decision on whether i need to rejet my bike or not. its an 01 rm125. fresh top end and now i want to make sure their is no jetting problems.

mixing 32:1 as recommended by suzuki. plug is black, small deposits. iv never fouled a plug in 20hours of having the bike. and no dead spots or bog in the bike.

the only reason im thinking about rejetting is previous owner said it was set up for 50:1 mix. and the fact that it POURS oil out the exhaust so bad that the swing arm and wheel are covered in oil after a ride.

what should i do?

Rejet it, there should only be a few drips here and there. See what main & pilot jets are installed, and other specs its set on, stock needle, clip position etc. 50:1? Dang :bonk:

Hi there
I had quite some dripping and cleaned the carb thoroughly, adjusted float level, adjusted needle clip position one level higher, gave the airscrew half a turn out and that made the difference. Nice brown spark-plug and after 3 hours about 1 to 2 drops.

Do not judge the jetting by the amount of spooge coming from exhaust. It could also depend on the type of oil you are running. I am running the Suzuki premix, and no matter how I jet, it is still spooging. How hard are you running the bike? If you do not stay on the pipe, that might cause it too. I would start by taking the carb apart and cheking the float level. It should be 5mm for 01. What pilot and main are you running right now?

I'v never run it hard like a racer. lots of woods and trail riding, some occasional drag race or two. the spooge is usually the worst when im on the pipe alot.

main is 440, pilot 27.5. clip is stock position. airbox is opened up as well. also using maxima K2 synthetic. float is set correctly as well. and carb is clean.

Try a 25 pilot, and then play around with the needle clip position. I run mine with 25 pilot, clip in 3rd, stock needle, 460 main. It seems to run better after I switched to 25. How fresh is the Top End? Rings go pretty quick and that could cause excessive spooging. Also, just to be clear, is the spooge coming from the tip of the exhaust or from the connection with the pipe? The reason I ask is because most of the times spooge on swingarm and on wheels usually comes from that connection between the pipe and the muffler. If it is the case, all you need is some high temp silicone or a new rubber clamp. If it is actually coming from your muffler end and spreading around the wheel and swingarm, that is a lot of spooge.

elevation is 850ft.

oil comes from the end of the silencer... ya its a lot of spoog lol
top end is brand new with less than an hour on it right now.

Did this just start after the fresh top end? Extra assembly lube maybe?????
If not then click on the Suzuki FAQ's sticky and go through the proper jetting procedure.

the bike has always been that way, just want it to stay cleaner! ok i will try messing with the pilot and needle clip. thanks alot

if your leaking enough oil/spooge out of the exhaust to the point its dripping down onto the swingarm everyride, you might want to check that the crank seals not bad. pull the header and see if theres alot of oil in there thats more liquid like then thick nasty spooge.

just redid the engine, everything else is working fine.

It's always a good idea to properly adjust your jetting. Go through the jetting steps on the FAQs page. It doesn't take long and the engine will likely run better because of it.
