i have an 89 rm 80 that has ran and started fine but never had to use the choke to start until recently ?? always started on first kick even after 2 - 3 days ... now is hard to start and need choke now ?? only have one chance to start before it floods ??? seems to flood immediately upon trying to start ?? im using a br8es plug ...i even turn bike on side when floods and drain bowl empty and put new plug in and still same problem ?? float level ?? haven't cleaned carb yet ... could a dirty carb be the problem?? something clogged thats making it flood ?? i have been turning the idle screw in almost all the way and doesn't idle good either?? any help would be greatly appreciated ... thanks

Make sure the butt plug isn't in. no air flow, no start.
I realize this probably is not the case, but I have seen it happen - no disrespect intended.
Check for spark. Stators and coils can fail, even in newer bikes.
If you have spark, make sure you have a clean, non-oil logged air filter in there and give it another shot.
Carb clean and float level would be next after that?

clean the carb, set the floats, check the reeds and go from there.
It could be that the top end is worn out as well, so a compression check might be in order.

-Clean carb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-check reeds
-run 50:1 amsoil (2.6 oz per gallon) and IDC what other people tell u!!!!!!! trust me!!!!!!!!!(run it in my 01 rm 80 play bike)-perfect-
-b8es is perfect-nice job!!!! (runem myself)
-if your air filter is not a uni or twin air?? throw it away and go out and buy one!!!
-call ur local bike shop and get the jet chart or jet it RIGHT to ur pipe and/or scilencer
