i have a few questions when we took the head off some antifreeze got into the crank, the bike is tipped up side down to try to get some of it out, is there any way to clean the crank case to get rid of the antifreeze, i was thinkin about puttin 2 stroke oil and letting it sit in there to lubricate and try to clean, and then tip it upside to get the oil out

any tips, the project now with the bike is to bore it out to a 144, and tips and hints would be greatly appreciated

you got the right idea. i use premix (gas and oil) fill up the crankcase, swish it around a little and dump it out and repeat till its clean. use the old premix in your wifes car:lol:

Wd-40 is good. Turn it upside down, let it drain, then put a little bit of two stroke oil over the bottom end rod bearing and turn it sideways so each crank bearing gets some coating of oil on it. Should be ok if you keep it covered up with clean shop towels to keep the dust out of it. Don't seal it up in plastic though, make sure it can breathe.

The cylinder, from the pics, they are not that clear, but the cylinder.... I think it's gone to the great cylinder patch in the sky.

maybe you got it but, gasoline swish it around good then the oil you would regularly put in it don't leave the gasoline because it eats bearings in some stuff

Clean up the bottom end like mentioned above and send the jug and head into Eric Gorr. 144's are fun as heck. I am ~280lbs and have a blast on my kids KX 144!!

no oil goes in the crank ( were the crank actually is) it goes in the left side of the crank
if that were the case i can just drain the oil

there was a little piece of metal that got stuck between the cylinder and the piston
could that have made its way up to the top of the piston from the crank?

Sure it could have. How does the crank feel when you spin it by hand? Are you sure it wasn't a circlip or part of a ring?

im positive it wasnt the c clips or the rings, they are both fine, the crank feels fine i just havent really checked it to see if it has play side to side or up and down, no noise nothing unusual

Scary. If you're sure it wasn't a circlip or ring, then chances are good it was a bit of rod bearing or main bearing.

i checked the rod today, and when i would spin the crank there would be a wierd noise like a slight knock, very faint though, idk if its normal or not

not normal, that would probably be the problem. i would deffinatly replace or rebuild it, along with the crank bearings and seals

yea i dont think it was supposed to sound like that, im gonna take it to a shop, because there are too many little things to deal with on the crank, especially for my first time

O, easily! piece of metal from the bottom of the crank gets sucked up at TDC and thrown into the pipe or port, then during BDC it is allowed back in the cylinder and is now on the top of the piston- ready to cause havoc!

If your doing a 144 kit that old cylinder was done anyway. for $500 you can have a fresh 144 from eric gorr. if i would do my 125 over again i would have done the 144

its not my bike so im unsure what we are gonna do with it, but i think because it is kind of an old bike we prob will just go with the stock bore

ive heard that eric gorr does great bore kits, but you have to send the motor to him correct?

if your going to do the 144 kit then yes, you have to send the whole engine in. This is due to the fact their is a crank mod that he has to do as well. if you give him a call, you may get lucky and he has one sitting on the shelf ready to go. if not, you probably wont be out any more time than if you just replated the cylinder.

so really the down time would be the same-2-3weeks. its really just an object of how much do you want to spend? 250 or 500?
