Ride Report: WR450 vs CRF450X

Recommended Posts

Krannie dont take this personal:

1) Doesnt really mean a whole lot when your comparing a an 03 WR (stock motor) to a cam'd X motor ?

2) Doesn't mean much when the stock suspension on the WR is open bath compared to the twin camber of the X:bonk: (Even if one has been worked

3) Oh and the frame's steal vs aluminum...lets compare (atleast) an updated WR

I have yet to see an X "walk" away from my WR and I am not even cam'd:thumbsup: but then again gearing and final drive ration and trans missions can make a bike "feel" like it has more...

My 07 WR uncorked with YZ exhaust could pull neck in neck with my buddies 06 CRF450R all day long.

Haven't tried yet with the HC piston and YZ cams ?

I own an '08 WR450 and an '08 CRF450X. Both are awesome bikes. If I could only have one, it would be the CRF. I have 3 friends with 07 and 08 WR450's, and I can't seem to get them to stay off of the CRF. It is noticeable faster, more nimble, and better brakes. Having said that, I enjoy every second on the WR, and on long lazy rides, it is my first choice. You can't buy a bad bike these days.

+1.

I've got a piped, cammed, yz-suspended 07 WR. Haven't seen any bike "walk" away from it or any bike it can't hang with.

Performance wise, and of same year, these bikes are very comparable. Throw the same mods at both and they become more similar. They are both good and ultimately it comes down to preference, and what you want to start with based on what's important to you. I don't have much brand loyalty anymore so when it came down to a choice between the two, I went blue because of some small aspects that were better for me along with some things I perceived as being better and only time will tell on those.

The billet tip in the stock exhaust is about the same as a 450x stock pipe with the baffle cut. Just sayin'

If you're ever curious get your hands on an '03 YZ 450f exhaust cam and an open exhaust. I think you'll be surprised. ?

If you noted, I did not say it was a 'shoot-out' or even a 'comparison": just a ride report. I own both bikes, spend more time on the WR than the X (local extra-tight trials), and prefer it for third gear and below.
