Anybody had both? Have input?

I'm down for a bit, and so is my stable of bikes, so I've been tinkering. The KLX has it's head down in CA getting some SS valves, and the suspension is in process of being messed with(putting in a 5.6 rear spring in lieu of a 5.4)...I bought an Acerbis 3.3 gallon tank and some new shrouds to go on when the head goes back on. What I'm trying to decide is whether to install the Z-start Pro that I've got in a box on the shelf, or see what I can do to get an EXP? I've gotta new Barnett pressure plate that would require a new basket to do it justice. I like my clutch, grew up with it. I'm somewhat of an old dog trying to learn this new auto-trick. It irks me when some young buck that for the most part can't get around near as well as me, gets a hold of one of these new auto-clutches and is suddenly competitive in the rough stuff. I've ridden several auto-clutched bikes, but never the EXP. Seems the EXP has better clutch feel, but more abrupt engagement?

any help appreciated

What i wanna know is how you afford all these bikes and parts just "laying around"! Sigh....such is life with a wife a two lil' uns i suppose. All the power to ya...so very jealous i am. If i could...i'd spend every loose nickle on my bike and not think twice about it. My wife will never understand the relationship between man and machine!

The Core exp is mostly for anti stall. It wont actually feather the clutch for you or when it does its 100% off or 100% on. The Pro will feather the clutch for you just like you would. Due to the way it works your clutch will be totally limp (on the Pro) until the engine picks up enough speed to put pressure via the balls that spin for you to actually have a clutch to use.
Just remember with either you cannot bump start your bike but your riding will be faster. It depends on the entire reason you would want one. The Pro will definately reduce arm pump make it alot easier to ride and its almost cheating up hills. But remember your bike will never ever be in gear if its not running. if you down the bike on a hill it will free wheel when you pick it up, so you cant rely on the backwheel to stop it. At low speeds going downhill your clutch will disengage until you blip the throttle to get it to engage again but its not a big thing. Ive had one on my husaberg and i do miss it alot now i dont have one, makes someone that is slow because of clutch control fast because you no longer have to worry about it. Allows you to be more aggresive too.

I have had the pleasure of the Z-start Pro for about a year now and must say that it makes riding the bike much easier, especially in those tough rocky hillclimbs. I have done the same mods as you are doing, bigger tank, suspension springs, steering stabilizer, 14 tooth primary sprocket and must say, the bike performs at a high level in the District 37 desert races. Scotty is correct in the fact that the motor will just idle on downhills, however as he mentioned, all it takes is a blip of the throttle to get the clutch reengaged. Takes a little getting used to but becomes natural real soon. My only complaint is that the bike is hard to get into neutral when running with the Rekluse.

I do a lot of that, however I always end up thinking twice...but kinda like my screen name implies...:busted:

I'm an engineer at Boeing, so I have a certain amount of imaginary security. I've just always been this way...I've got 17 bikes of all kinds and configurations. Most run and are currently registered. Mom said I made the 'motor sound' when I was born instead of crying. Been havin health issues lately, so every day I can ride is a blessing. Nothing I've ever found in life compares to the long term joy I get from a good ditch day. Kids didn't do it, women haven't done it...I'm a slave to a mechanical horse. So be it. C'est la vie.

I think I'm going to put the Z-Start Pro on and try it. Would sure like to hear of an EXP owner's experience with the KLX450R. I just think that oem clutch feel, and never stall? Unless it absolutely changes the traction package that the KLX provides, I'd think it to be the perfect solution.

My experience with the Z-Start Pro on other bikes is that I never really knew what gear I was in. That's strange to me, but I suspect all the energy I normally put into maintaining the perfect gear for the moment, could be better utilized in other bike control technique. We'll see. I must be getting older

For the type of riding and racing I do I'd probably go for the Z-pro as I want that feathering of the power for the nasty stuff.. Just have to remember to not be in to high a gear as it will put a tremendus load on the engine.. I bet the Z-pro aslo adds to the flywheel effect as the balls and ramp/spring assembly must add some rotating mass to clutch set..
Agreed on all ends. Without going into detail, I'll never ride without the Pro again. You'll go through brake pads a helluva lot quicker I've noticed too. Most people think these things just benefit novice riders; no way man. Go Pro and forget about it.
Ditto to all!!!
Took me about 15 mins into my first ride with the pro to get used to it. So Awesome :worthy::banana:

I found I am now Waaaay faster on downhills because you can ride them while being on the gas. Yes I am destroying brake pads though!
