Hello Green Riders,

I'm looking at buying a 2000 KX250 that doesn't have many hours on it and appears to be in good shape. Are there any known problems with these bikes I should be aware of? Also I know that Kawi and Suzuki "share" some models, anyone know if the 2000 KX has anything in common with the 2000 RM?

Thanks in advance

No, there is nothing that is common with an RM250.

Common issues are the lower shock bearing, mushy brakes, and short-lived rear wheel bearings, especially on the chain side. The fork guards are also made out of some cheesy plastic and break easily.

Is that the one in Ferndale area??? Saw it on CL the other day, looked pretty clean and the price certainly was "good".

I have a 2000 myself and it rips!!! Have not had ANY issues with it, other then it eats rear tires:smirk:

The Kawasaki - Suzuki alliance did not pertain to the 250 two-stroke MX bikes.

It did not include any full-sized bikes at all, other than the DRZ/KLX400, and the first-generation RMZ/KXF250. It mainly included the minis, the JR50, KX65, and KX100.

Any bike will do that if the springs, o-rings and crush gasket is not changed often enough.

I have a 2001 and the bike has been great. The guy that rebuilt my bottom end for me told me to keep an eye on the water pump gasket since I guess he's seen a few of those fail/leak.

Don't forget the KLV1000 (I think some Quads too)...

Yeah I know, there were a few "badge-engineered" bikes from the alliance, but by-and-large, neither company shared their bread-and-butter money-makers, with the exception of the KXF/RMZ250, and that was a complete fiasco that resulted in the end of the cooperative efforts.
