I am about to go on a trip in November, the Baja 1000. There will be no Kawasakis on my trip but this is my forum so I'm telling you guys. A friend of mine is racing in it and I will be driving a pickup and taking him to each of his sections. We are going down a week early and we will preride all his sections together. I will be riding my trusty old DR350 cuz it's the only 4stroke I have and all the other bikes with us will be 4strokes. I am starting to get excited now that it is getting closer and the plan is coming together.

I have never been to Baja before, so this will be an adventure for me. They have places for us to stay all lined out and are taking me and bringing me back so I don't have to do anything other than go. They are on a Honda, I know not my choice lol, but have payed for Honda pits so we don't have to do gas, air filters or tires. My main job will be to get my friend to each of his sections. I'm sure it will be a long day but it should be a fun 12 days. After it's all over I'll post how it went. BTW the bike # is 402X for those that may follow this Baja stuff.

This sounds like so much fun -- both the pre-ride and the actual support help. I have been dreaming of a baja trip for a few years now, this would be a GREAT way to accomplish it.

Go have fun, take pics, enjoy the good times!!

I will be riding in the race also. We have a team of 7 over 50 guys that will be riding 504X. Doing most of out preride out of San Felipe. I have been assigned sections that include mile 80-100 and mile 536 to 636. The latter will be run at night! Looking forward to the experience.

Looking for any insight about my sections. Anyone who has some experience and can tell me about these areas.

Thanks

Here's what I know: slow is fast. Don't piss in the holes on the desert floor unless you have a .22 or larger weapon. Suggest not eating high protein right before you ride - ubnless you have something to read when you are then craping on the side of the road. Not much help, am I? :)

Sean if I was driving myself and not a passenger I would stop by for sure, thanks for the invite. I would like to ride your stuff and may try to make it happen someday. I can retire anytime I want, I just haven't yet but it may be getting closer, lol. When I do I may NEED to get out of the house more lol.

Some will tell you that driving a chase truck is the most dangerous thing you can do during the race, they are telling you the truth. Be very careful, especially if you are going to be driving at night. Pre Running will be a blast, how many miles is your buddy doing? You will be amazed how fast the 40 pro class is.

Not breaking your satellite phone or radio and being able to communicate real time with your rider and pits, is a good thing. Much less wandering around in the dark that way.

Thanks all. DD and justarider I will be driving at night and will be on top of my game so to speak. Dave my guy is doing over 200 miles, there are 4 riders and they have broke it up fairly evenlly. Also they are all VERY fast.

We are going to preride and predrive all the night parts in the night. If all goes well we will be close to what we have planed, we hope. These guys have been doing this for a few years now with a different team and I am the only virgin I think. We are going to work on me understanding just what I need to do and when. I plan to put in my part on effort and if all goes well we hope for a good finish.

Thanks again all for the advice.

You may want to look around in the Baja forum a little bit. Post up what section your chasing in, you might find someone chasing/racing the same section to pair up with at night. By nightime the "fans" have had plenty of time to get drunk, and the traffic is at it's peak, be careful and have fun.

Dave you have good points, thanks.I have been lurking in the Baja section. Are you going? You seem to have a good knowlage of this stuff. My friends do have there stuff together and I will do as I'm told, this is not about me lol. I am the trail boss on most of my rides so its nice to just be one of the guys so to speak. I WILL be careful and will have my trusty DR with me so if I have to I can always ride home lol. I will be chasing all over I think, they have it fairly evenly devided.

I also see that 2X is a friend of mine and a guy I have been riding with since he was a kid on a XR350 so anyway good luck Adam.

Thanks again.

Sean we have lots of hoops in places. The old DR is pretty good in them, it has 88 RM cartridge forks and a 91 RM shock on it so it works good for me. I'll let you know how things go.

If you are doing 536 to 636, San Felipe is about the farthest place away from where you should be staged to pre-run.

At 536, guessing on a class 50 group times, maybe you get on the bike at around 11:35 PM (536/ 32mph, starting @ appx 6:50AM)

FYI, my guesstimate for the first trophy truck in that area @ 536: 50 mph average - 536/50= 10 hours 44 minutes. Start @ appx 10:30AM. will be at 9:14PM.

Its going to be cold in the night section. Except for the last part of the last part, your sections are pretty fast.
