Unless your plates are all newer than the old basket you should replace the plates too. A worn basket can/will wear on the plates "fingers" since there is a gap between the fingers and the worn basket the plates have a tendency start slamming into the basket when the clutch is popped/dropped and from aggresive shifting. If you put in a new basket with worn plates the slamming effect can continue on the new basket.

A new clutch plate kit will include new springs also which is good if your still running stock 01 springs that will be worn out by now most likely.

Dont forget to soak your new plates in oil overnight, and to loctite the bolts that will hold your new basket to the gear assembly.

Not trying to talk you out of the Wiseco basket but if you want to save a couple bucks you could go with this one:

When I bought my used 03 I went ahead and replaced all the clutch parts except the PP and used the above basket in the link with cheapo EBC plates and springs, two years later and its still holding up, I will say Im not that hard on it though. If your having to slip the clutch alot a look at your jetting may be in order.. bad jetting = more clutching = faster wearing clutch parts.

Alright sounds good, but as for hardware or other parts for installing the basket do i need anything. I thought i read something about having some sort of right gear or something extra to install it not sure though.

Just got done replacing the basket on my 01. the hardest part is taking the retainer nut off. If you have an air impact you should be fine, if not spend $15 and but a clutch basket holder. simple tool that will pay for itself after one use.

You will also have to have a grinder to grind off the rivets that hold the gear on to the back of the basket.

I bought a magnum clutch basket and it came with alan-skrews to tighten the gear to the basket. should be similar to what you will have.

I went with a Tusk clutch kit-only $55 for new plates ans ebc springs!

i have the same kit in my 300ex ATV, works great with about 40hours on it. no slipping and no complaints.

I hope it will do just as well in my bike, it sucks because the only thing im waiting on is a side cover gasket.....otherwise i would be out riding it around:ride:

heres an update for mikebell. got my bike back together today and running. the new basket and clutch make a really noticeable difference! no more notch feeling when using the clutch! very happy with it so far.

total coast on that upgrade was $230, including a gasket.
