I saw Transworld's review of the RM250 - 2007 - and they said that the 2006's RM had too much hit and it was gracioulsy smoothed out. Anybody with experience can validate that? The reason being is I'm searching hard for the RC Edition, but, I have some experience, .... but. I remember test driving an 05 and the thing pissed me off it was so freaking hard hitting. What mod's could smooth out the hit until I'm ready to slam it or should I skip the graphics lust and get an 07 or 08?

I just got "divorced" from my 06 RM 250...great bike.

You could always add a little flywheel weight to " tame" the hit. It actually makes the powerband more linear, sounds like what you might be looking for.

Just so you know, the RM 250 has the lightest flywheel of all the production Japanese 2 strokes. Steahly hooked me up quick with a 10oz FWW and it was a completely different bike. Great in the woods..tamer on the track.

Good luck.

i have a 06 and a 07. The 07 is way better than the 06! There is no comparison. I am so much faster on the 07 it is freakin unbelievable! It turns better, jumps better and goes much faster! :busted:

Just kidding, they are pretty much identical. I did not notice any difference between the two.

I saw that Transworld review. I can't help but wonder if he was comparring it to the 05 because as far as I know the 06 and 07 hit the same.

Here is a 06 review from motocross action

In many ways the '07 RM250 was a lot different from the '06. The biggest was rotating the engine some and revising the porting.

http://www.totalmoto...uzuki-RM250.htm

New Features

• New seat now features textured side panels for maximum rider control

• Redesigned cylinder exhaust ports to improve power and torque output at mid-high rpm range and maximum roll on acceleration - Main exhaust ports are enlarged to 42.6mm - Sub-exhaust ports are re-shaped to be narrower and shorter - Port timing is advanced by 0.5mm

• Engine placement has been revised by tilting the engine slightly forward in the chassis. As a result the drive sprocket is now 3mm higher, resulting in a more stable movement of the swingarm and improved rear wheel traction in the whoops.

• Front and rear settings are revised to work with new drive sprocket position and for improved traction

• Front fork upper holder is now removed for reduced weight

Engine Features

• 249cc, two-stroke, liquid-cooled, reed-valve intake engine has 66.4mm x 72.0mm bore and stroke

• Digital CDI to match ignition timing to throttle opening for strong response

Chassis Features

• Strong and lightweight single backbone, chrome-moly steel frame combined with rectangle cross section aluminum alloy swingarm for maximum strength and minimal weight

• Renthal tapered aluminum handlebars with Renthal-labeled handlebar pad - lighter than standard bars - rubber-mounted to reduce vibration

• Showa 47mm inverted dual-chamber forks are fully adjustable and built with an emphasis on better cornering and straight line performance. Compression and rebound damping valve settings are set for smooth mid-stroke movement and maximum overall suspension balance

• Showa piggyback reservoir shock absorbers are fully adjustable for high & low speed compression damping, rebound damping and preload with 12.2 inches of wheel travel

Get a flywheel weight and maybe a torque spacer.

Got lucky lately to have ridden an '07 RM250 from a friend of mine, and it is a great bike. I have an '08 YZ250, by the way. Both of us are trail riders, sort of paddle-foot-poosies, not pro's :smirk:

One thing i really like about is how small it feels, especially noticeable is the cockpit. It's also not as tall as the YZ, good for my 5'7" frame. The YZ though feels lighter (statically by lifting it and pushing and pulling it side-to-side, and pseudo-statically while on the move). The YZ just feels taller :banghead: ....taller riders may find it better than the RM, but not in my case.

The power is just the same as the YZ250 (we're both running bone stock motor) although i feel that his RM signs out a bit faster. Low end power is almost just the same ---- the '06 RM250 MXA review is RIGHT at saying that Suzuki has finally cloned Yamaha's YZ250 engine. Suzuki kept tweaking the RM engine until 2007. The 2007 and 2008 engines are the same.

I'm now thrown between getting an '08 YZ125 or an '06 and up RM250 as a 2nd bike for next year.

Great bike, buy one and you won't regret it man! You're in for one of the most satisfying relationship in your life.... Keep the 2-stroke alive AND WELL

I bought a used 06 RM 250 about 6 months ago. In my opinion, the power delivery is really smooth and easy to ride. I hear that the 05 and earlier engines are quite a bit more snappy.

I have an 06 that was almost brand new when I got it a couple months ago.....It's an absolutely amazing bike and the power rolls on smooth like butta...LOL Its an awesome machine I think you are referring to the 05 it hit like a ton of bricks! All you have to do is put an 06 intake boot and reed spacer on it and wahm! You have an 06 engine. I was unaware there were any changes between the 06 and up.....Now if only I could get the suspension dialed..... :banghead:

Its good stuff I just need to play with the clickers and since im over 200lbs I NEED stiffer springs....anyone out there got any stock springs out of an 07 and up RMZ250 they want to unload for a gooooooooood price?

i have an '07 and i run a dep front pipe on it, fitted this as my pal runs one on his '06 cr250 and said it will smooth things out. i find the power very smooth and it has great bottom end. i have just recently upgraded to this from an RM125 so this could be why it feels so smooth and tourqey to me
