I cannot keep my forks from moving in the clamps. They are constantly sliding up. I tighten them to 16.5 lbs starting with the bottom clamp alternating turn son each bolt. I've even tried just hunkering down on them past the correct torque. No luck they still move. Is it possible I've compressed the outer tube or something?

Does anyone else have this issue? The clamps are stock and they are on my Rm250, but are off a 07 rmz450 (Thanks Camm. Blue Berry, White Muscadine, Mayhaw, Black Berry?) Only difference is 1mm in offset.

Are your pinch bolts greased? A clean bolt, a greased bolt and a rusty bolt all read differently.
How tight did you keep the bolts on the previous clamps?

Clean up the inside of the fork holders of the triple clamp. Use emeryclothe and use horizontal strokes and like 500xc said make sure the bolts and the threads are clean.

Motoxhead - I've spent a LOT of time revalving my forks lately, I've had them apart 1/2 dozen times. I've left WD40 on my forks and, with 18 ft-lbs on the uppers and 14 ft-lbs on the lowers, have NEVER had my forks slip in the clamps even a smidge. Even when I had the valving so off that I'd use available travel easily and bottomed out frequently. And that's with a combination of new and older bolts. Because, believe it or not, I actually lost two bolts in my upper triple earlier this year due to poor reassembly from a suspension tuner. And even then there was no fork tube slippage.

'Something wrong. The amount of surface area on the insides of the clamps provides mucho pressure to grip the tubes.

Are you sure that the RMZ triples aren't for a different sized fork tube? Maybe whoever you got them from was wrong on the year or something? I'm not saying you don't do your homework but maybe you got bad info or something . . .

No the clamps are for the correct size tube and if anything they are for a smaller tube because they are tight when installing them.

I'm going to borrow a different torque wrench to make sure mine is working properly.

Yeah, your torque wrench has been pissing me off:foul: since the day I met it:smirk:

The small tourque wrench in my metric tool set reads in newton-meters and inch-lbs. If not careful, some really bad things can come from looking at the wrong scale!
