Well I thought I got an awesome deal on an 08 TE510. I took it to my mecanic to have it checked out prior to purchasing and everything seemed fine. I bought it. While it was in the shop I had him return it to stock height, as the previous owner had lowered it. My mechanic calls me a couple of days later and says I can't get this thing to start! In the end the fuel pump was gummed up with black sludge and small plastic pieces. He tried to clean it all up but finally gave up. It needs a new pump. Called the dealer and well you know the deal-$576?!?!? I read a couple of posts about people trying to find a cheaper solution like trying to just buy the pump motor but it doesn't look like anyone has found a solution. I'm just checking in to see if anyone has since. Or if not, does anyone know where I may be able to find one used or less expensive? Does the forum have a preferred dealer that offers members a discount? Man, I feel ripped off. The seller knew. It's just unfortunate it didn't act up on my test ride or for the mechanic. Help!

You may want to post this over on Cafehusky as well. I remember some post about this. I wonder if you pull the pump out if it would have any numbers on it and be able to cross reference it. You might also want to call George at uptite. He may be able to repair yours.

The manufacture should be stepping up on these things if they want to promote fuel injection, otherwise some of us will continue to avoid it till were forced into it.

Good idea on the #'s , atvs and snomobiles have used pumps like this for a few years now and might cross.

Ive been wondering if there is a way to remove the pump and use an external pump. Ive seen some high pressure pumps for under $100. idk if you can remove the pump or allow fuel to flow past it with it inside? It be awesome to know if this works.

you should look into it for us :)

Did you buy your bike from a dealer? over here Dealers have to warrant used vehicles for at least 3 months(well I think it's 3 months)

I did remember seeing a post here about the actual manufacturer of the pump.

edit:

I found it, Bendbiker had the same issue's, send him a pm and see how he got on.

cheers

Hi Champ,Me had same problem as well with my 08 450,Apparently fuel pump was contaminated and strainers were black, I to was shocked at how much it would have costed me if not for warrenty,New fuel pump as well.I only hope this does not happin again,Not sure what caused this as brought new fuel container when purchase bike, allways had clean fuel,Unless fuel had reaction with plastic inside tank.

On a side note, when I bought my bike, I pulled the fuel pump first thing and added an extra zip tie to ensure the motor stayed in place since I had heard that the pump can move out of position and cause the bike to "run out of fuel" prematurely. Anyway, when I pulled the pump, I could see a ton of plastic bits probably left over from manufacturing so thoroughly rinsed the tank before I ran the bike. I bet that if all oft hat crap isn't rinsed out prior to riding the bike, there is the potential for it to foul the pump.

I read on Cafe Husky about possibly installing an external, but they pooh-poohed on it because of pressures being different and the overall complexity. Bendbiker from the Cafe Husky forum did some research on the numbers on the pump motor but hit a dead end. The distributor in the states only sells them to manufacturers and the manufacturer overseas did not reply to his inquiries...

I did there first actually. And thanks, I'll check with uptite and post up. I am on a mission here as I think it's bs that you have to but the whole assembly, especially since it's a know fail point on these bikes. I ma try to contact Husqvarna as well.

If you know the pressure specs, chances are good you could get an aftermarket external pump. Do a search on EFI conversions for bikes. There's a few out there, you won't need any of their systems, just the pump.
Nice fringe benefit is you may be able to get a significantly larger tank meant for a carb'd bike if one is needed. I believe a 610 owner from Mexico went that route on my recomendation getting ready for a long distance South American dualsport adventure. Lost track of his experiences, but a little time googling may give you some cost effective options.

I broke the elbow connector off my fuel pump and was shocked that Husky insist on a complete new pump.

I found that Sherco parts fitted exactly and they sell individual parts also. You might check out their spares manual and make enquiries.

Sweet! That starting to look promising but the actual pump is not numbered. I'll give them a call and report back. Thanks!

And thank you minusone as well...

the pump looks similar to some of the ducati & bimota pumps. does anyone have one out that they could measure the silver case dimensions (diameter & height)?
