CRF50 fork trouble

How do these things work? Is it the same as others with a compression side and a rebound side? I've never worked on any but something is wrong with my boys forks. They literally just sink all the way down like there is no resistance. Grease is all over both of the tubes. There is a little bit of spring at the bottom but only about an inch.

Got it. The springs were in about 7 pieces.

They are just springs and grease as you have found. You can replace the weak plastic fork bushings with derilum (sp?) bushings that hold up much better. Check ebay for them.
