i dont know if this is the right place for this but does anyone have any experience with these sleds? i am looking at trading one of my bikes for one and i am wondering how they will handle ditch riding knee/waist deep powder and some trails. i plan to put about a 6 inch riser on to make it better for standing. newer sleds arent really a option because all i have to give people is a bike and not very much cash. im riding a 06 polaris touring deluxe right now with a 550 fan so i know the motor will be better for sure. this srx also has ohlins shocks up front

The SRX is more of a trail sled than anything. You can use it for dich riding but it doesnt really have the suspention for it.

If you long travel the front suspension, you can then install an Edge rear suspension...(out of an 2002-2008 polaris ) that will give you 14+" of ditch banging travel. :smirk:

or look into a polaris pro-X rear skid close to the edge, way better than extra-10,  alot tougher than the edge, better rydefx shocks, same amount of travel. i bought a pro-x skid for my xcr last year for $300 shipped and it needed$30 in parts and the shocks needed rebuilt $400 when it was all said and done oh and check out jbshocks.com has has mounting dimensions to swap x10, edge, and pro-x, skids into other sleds!!

if you take the mounting brakets at the top of the shock and switch them around(or flip them upside down? ill have to look into that) it will raise your front end about an inch.

Wrong. Very wrong. The SRX is a lake racer.SX is a trail sled, and the SXR is a performance trail/off trail sled sled

The SRX 600 was an odd duck..one year wonder...

The basic differences between between the 3 sleds are:

sRx : Powervalved 3 cylinder engine, tripple piped, short travel suspension. High performance porting, made for lake racing.
sxR : Non powervalved 3 cylinder engine (called a red headed engine...because the heads are red) , single pipe, long travel suspension. Low performance, but durable and great ride.
SXViper : Powervalved 3 cylinder engine (although very close to sRx engine, not the same one) single piped, long travel suspension. Kinda the best of both worlds. Very fast trail sled. The put the woopin to alot of sleds till about 70-80 mph.. then their legs got short. Very durable engine... i have 7400 miles on mine and it has never been apart.

does the long travel suspension bolt into the srx? is it worth it to find the suspension from one of the other too? also how hard of a job is it?

yep viper suspention should bolt right up! well it does for the srx700 so it should for the 600

the rear suspension from the sxR or the Viper will bolt in... or you could just change the shocks, transfer rods, and limiter straps and have the same thing.

The front shocks will not bolt in .. the top mounts are different, you would need to build adapter brackets.

Go to totallyamaha.com and search there...it has been discussed a bizillion times... and there is 2 bizillion different ways to address the issue.

will i still be able to use the ohlins shock part?

You could re-use your front shocks, by flipping the upper brackets over. This will raise the front of the sled, but the steering geometry will not be correct.  Plus this will only raise the front end...not give you more travel. The long travel sleds, ( Viper and sxR ) had different length radius rods, and different caster angle trailing arms.

Do yourself a BIG favor... go to www.totallyamaha.com and search the srx / VIper forums. This is the information capital of the internet for Yamaha sleds. There is EVERY possible combination of suspension upgrades talked about, pics, directions, reviews etc there. I am currently one on there with a Viper with Edge suspension upgrade.
