Quiet pipe suggestions for 08 yz450f

If anyone can clear up anything on the differences between the motocross and enduro can that isn't stated here please do so.

my info is for last years stuff.

here is mine on a WR, its a youtube link.

the difference between the YZ and the WR slip on was just fittings. and its just your standard race type muffler. a straight thru perforated tube with packing around it.

if you run without the rear baffle plug, the exhaust does a real good job of filtering out the high frequencies, but puts out some very satisfying deep base rumble, and still easy on the ear drums.

I bought the WR version, the WR muffler comes with a header gasket so that the slip on will fit the WR's smaller 38mm header pipe. and they come with different end caps. which is swappable.

I eventually got a YZ header and it slips on without a gasket. . and the WR comes with a smaller diameter rear baffle insert. And it is the quietest. I actually found a larger diameter X3 baffle on ebay and installed it. I think it was left over from a X3 for a CRF450. parts are for the most part interchangeable. I think they have two diameters of X3s. a fat one and a skinny one. Fat one for 450s and skinny ones for smaller bikes.

the euro version of the leo website has schematics with dimensions and pictures on the baffles. I found it very helpful.

Slug:

I had read your posts on here and seen your youtube video before I bought the Leo Vince X3 for my WR250F. It was very helpful. Thanks.

I agree that the X3 muffler without the insert is not that loud. The insert made it a little quieter, but it was not such a big difference that I wanted to use the insert. It is quiet enough without the insert for me (but I do not have to meet any set sound test).

My X3 enduro end cap is the same as the X3 motocross version (both are black carbon) and both mufflers are identical. The quiet insert may be different, but I do not use it. I think your endcap is aluminum from what I saw in the youtube video and I am not sure why that is the case (maybe an older version). You are correct about the headers being different.

FWIW, The end cap is Stainless Steel. its the 2008 "aluminum" slip on. the 2008 Ti exhuast had the carbon tail cap. so I'm guessing they all have the carbon tail cap now?

I just bought mine about a month or so ago, so I guess it is a 2009. I ordered the enduro, so I guess they all have the carbon tip since mine certainly does. I like it a lot for the lower volume of a straight through race exhaust. I have the YZ Pro Circuit stainless header to go with it now. I did not notice as much of a jump in power with the header as I did with the slip on, but I am not done dialing in the jetting either.

Chile, from the drawings it looks to me like the spark arrestor is part of the quite insert? so is it possible to run with the sparky, but without quite insert?

The muffler comes with the quiet insert as shown in the drawing and a separate spark arressor that looks like it can only be used without the quiet insert. The quiet insert itself does not have a spark arrestor (it is just a smaller pipe). Therefore, if you put the quiet insert in it, it will be quiet but it will not have a spark arrestor. If you put the spark arrestor in, you will be without the quiet insert. This is a design flaw to me, but I do not use the quiet insert so it is not a problem (I do not use the spark arrestor either). I read someone else state this too, so I am pretty sure I am correct on this and I just looked at the parts to confirm. The pipe on the quiet insert is longer than the depth of the spark arrestor, and thus they cannot both go in unless maybe you had the spark arrestor protruding outside of the muffler in the backwards way.

wow, my question came out all wrong. but you answered it perfect. thanks.

Jim, go get the Q4 already! You know that's what you're going to end up with since quietness is your main concern...It's not going to take away power from stock...Also, not all rangers are clueless about the bikes that are riding in their scope areas, and many will readily be aware of the FMF Q4 pipe as it is the most quiet sparky pipe available...And I haven't been riding much in rocky terrain, but have beat the hell out of it in the dirt and sand, plenty of bike tumbles and cartwheels and the Q4 ti and Megabomb ti are holding up just fine...(Yes, I'm knocking on wood right now!)...

I may buy the Q4, but whats the big deal about asking questions and exploring all my options? I never have been worried about power this whole thread, as I stated earlier, but I'd was looking for some feedback on the lesser known options, such as Leo-Vince or Jardine. Other members who are looking for quiet exhaust options besides the Q4 might find this thread helpful as well.?

Demo_Slug and HwyChile, thank you for your info provided on the Leo-Vince:thumbsup:

As I remember, FMF claims an additional 1.5-2db reduction with a mega bomb header. I went the MRD route and I love the performance. With the quiet core, its fairly quiet - especially in the useable rpm range. But no stamp. I think the Q4/megabomb combo sounds like a good option.

They make them in SS, I ordered one last week over the phone. That said, it is on backorder so maybe they are just now starting to make them.

If you follow this link to FMF's site and select 2008 YZ450F it lists an option for both titanium and stainless. The list price on the stainless is $75.00 less than the ti.
