Just put it away for the winter. Such a short season here in Colorado. Someone needs to build an indoor reservoir.

opens ALL electrical connections and lube with di-electric grease and silicone the connector. make sure you have a WORKING bilge pump. not just a siphon system. if it's on a switch, make sure it is a waterproof switch. you need hood straps. more people comedown from up north every year for the Daytona freeride and lose their hoods in the surf, some have lost their skis as a result. you need a pole limiter. not having one equiped can and most likely will lead to a costly repair. you need tow loops on front and back as well as a 6ft or less tow rope with clips. (wear it around your waist like a belt) bring extra spark plugs and tools.

salt water is an electrical conductor as well as being corrosive. it gets into everything and wreaks havok if your ski isnt properly prepped. back flushing is the only way to flush. preferably with salt a way or dawn dish soap and then fresh water. Surf is always unpredictable and is the reason why you need a limiter and straps. even on a small day the surf can take your ski and tumble it over and over tearing it aprt if things are left to just flop around.

It might sound like alot of work, but it really isnt, just some basic stuff that will keep you from having to swim to shore and possible go back home ski less. :bonk:

Mine has only been in salt water. I have never had a problem and I got it new in 1996. You want to make sure you flush it every time before you put it away for the day. I flush mine for 15 minutes with the motor reving a little above idle. Take the hood off and hose the inside out good, take the drain plugs out and tilt it back to drain the water out, and then leave the hood off (or up) for 3 to 6 days or until it is dry inside. What ever you do, don't leave it home. Getting in the waves is a blast.

OK... I'll play.

It's getting cold here in PA... so she is in my shop, and just got winterized.  I need to repaint the nose... but it runs good for a 91.

Looks like an 82. Not a bad ski for its time but nothing like a reed valve engine. I have beat some 750s on my 550. I sold my 750 because I did not like the way it handled. I would like to try an 800 though.

The 82s were yellow, it's newer than that.  The last two digits of the HIN will tell you the year.

No the 1982 ski looked like this but you are right the last two numbers are the year.

I've seen that pic before.  Maybe they also offered red as a base color in '82.  That's what made the '82 ski cool, red and white were the only colors ever offered until the 550 production stopped.  At any rate the graphics in the two skis still don't match.

The only big mods done are a grate, plate, prop, modded CDI, Riva Red Pipe, and a waterbox from a 96+ SJ. I want to drop in a 701, the 650 was fun for the first few seasons I rode it but I want more now.
