Does any of you guys riding 426's have changed the gearing to WR400 gearing. We have a dealer in South Africa that does that to build a 20000 MODEL WR426. I see that some of you have suffered broken 3rd gears on the YZ426 and was wondering if yours were WR gears or stock YZ gears and if the WR gears will last with the added power of the 426 motor.

Keep on 1/2/3/4 wheels

The conversion is a great success and a must do unless you race motocross. You need to change 1st, 2nd and 5th gears. It makes the bike much more versaitile for off road riding - enduro, harescrambles and off roads. When I first bought the bike I was a little wary wondering if I had made the right bike selection, but after the ratio change it transformed the bike into the best scrambler I had ever owned - no regrets.

I am also based in SA. The parts came to R1650.00 incl with R450 labour to install (motor already removed from bike). I had the conversion done by Wayne at 'Alfie Cox Adventure Sport' in Cato Ridge - Durban. I'm sure 'Shimwells' or any competent Yamaha dealer could do the same.

Give us a call next time you are visiting Durban and I'll arrange a ride in the 'Valley of a Thousand Hills' for you and your buddies.

I have just changed the 5th gear to a wr gear as I like the long 1st and second gears ,also added a flywheel wgt from aloop.Works really well and works out alot cheaper than changing all 3 gears.
