I have always owned sport and utility quads...both. Over the years, I have ridden most of them, and there isn't any utility model other than the Honda Rancher that I would ever even consider owning! The new Rancher 420 is pretty hot (fuel injected and water cooled). The SRA model handles as well as some sport quads and is the best value for your $$$ of any quad on the market. If you want some cush, there is a new IRS model, which has a totally unique "twin clutch" transmission. (Real men don't need an automatic trans!)
My only complaint about the Ranchers, is that they are on the heavy side. To keep the price down, Honda didn't use a lot of alloy parts like they do on the top of the line models. Also, best to shift with your foot, and avoid the ES electric shifting option.
Current utility design is a real nightmare! Most of the manufacturers are putting out these huge heavy sloppy long travel machines, that appeal to aging baby boomers who are looking for a comforable ride. But...the price that you pay is stable handling in really nasty technical conditions. I ride circles around my friends who have their big sloppy machines, because I am low, tight, and stable! You ever seen a big tall heavy ute get rolled...it's not a pretty thing!
As for the Renegade, my opinion is that is is pretty much a huge pig! If you insist....of the current crop of belt drive autos, the Yamaha 700 is probably the best. The "hybrid" Yamaha Wolverine is a nice idea (something the Renegade attempts to be also), but they left to much utility in it and didn't include enough "sport".
