Hey guys im 5'6 and weigh 145, I currently ride a 2003 cr 125, and I love riding dirtbikes. Im definatly not a beginnar and honestly cant see myself riding quads but lately ive been tempted. I want something fast with good power, and to race. I like the raptor 250 just because it would be a good class to race in, but might not have enough power???? So what should I get if I decide on a quad, also not some $7000 dollar quad, something with in reasonable price range. Thanks.

I would try a used 450 racer from either Yamaha,Honda,Suzuki or Kawasaki.

If you're riding a CR, I don't think the Raptor 250 is gonna be fast enough for ya. I would look at a 450 too.

At least look for something like the 400Z, but I see a 450 in your future. :bonk:

I agree, any of the 450s would be what you want. The Raptor 250 is a great quad but if your are experienced on dirtbikes you are going to want the 450 class quad. Although they all have their differences I don't think any is really that much better than the other, just pick a color (brand) :bonk: Of course I am a Yamaha fan but I am not going to be biased. :bonk:

New they are are going to be 7k range but I am sure you can find a great used one for alot less most likely with some mods to it already. :bonk:

just keep them both that's what i do. dirtbike for track, quad for sand and trails. I cant say i like either one any better than the other. but i just got my quad 2 weeks ago so i want to ride it more.

Well the reason im thinking of new bike or quad is that my bike has given me problems since I got it due to an idiot previous owner. Now it might need a bottom end rebuild so im deciding if I want to do that or part it out and get something else.

So, you bought a used bike and it's giving you troubles due to the lack of maintenance from the previous owner.  Now you are thinking about buying a quad, but again you looking to buy used.  You get way you pay for.  If it were me and I didn't know the owner and the history of the machine, I would seriously consider buying new.  That way you don't have to worry if the engine is going to grenade on you and leave you stranded out in BFE.  Or maybe a suspension component or even the frame was damaged and the repair compromised its structural integrity......
A new machine means a lot less worries.  I'm leaning towards a Raptor 700 myself, but the new 450 Yamaha has also got my attention.  The 250 Raptor would be a good transition quad, plus it has quite a bit of power corked up that can be released with a few mods.

Id Say go 450. A 250 raptor will be to slow for your needs... Youll grow outa of it way to fast and waste your money.  I would say any 450 atv is a great start. I perfer Yamaha YFZ 450 but thats me :bonk:
