Have a buddy that is just short enough he has trouble kicking his bike. I suggested he could swap to an 03 de-comp cam but am not sure if that fits after reading the sticky? Does it work in the 98/99 engine? We are trying to decide what would be the best money spent...I'm assuming probably $1000.00 min for piston/rings, valve job, cam, probably some carb parts or a carb swap to a later model? I'll do the work for him at little to no charge...bike has some hours on it...

I'm thinking he might be better served at selling it, then with the "mod money", get something newer?

He might be, if it's long in the tooth, but just the cam won't cost that much.

The '03-'05 450 cam fits the 400, too, but it requires the same special timing process, and the stock 450 cam now costs as much as the Hot Cams stage I unit. For that reason, I'd go with the aftermarket part, as it's a better fit to the chain, and easier to time.
