Anyone ever tried to make this work? Looking for something that looks and sounds better than the stock one but I don't have the extra cash for a real set-up right now. I actually made a stock muffler from a trx450r work, and it sounded good, but it has a pretty large diameter compared to the bike exhausts so I would like to find something maybe a little smaller. I realize it's not going to bolt right up, but if the diameters of the pipes are the same I think it would be pretty easy to make it work...

you can always try a clamp like some of the FMF pipes use to mount also, that way its very easy to mount to subframe, should be able to get at lowes or home depot, worst case i know McmasterCarr carries them and in LA so close.

Made an 04 work on mine. Had to cut off a little bit and then went to the auto parts store and found a piece that would slip inside the CRF pipe and then over the stock Header. There some pics on here somewhere of it. Its in the show your pig section. just search my posts. There's only 8 of them.

I've put a CRF250-x muffler on my XL600. Good pipe those Stainless steel ones. I purchased one for a 450-X as well the other week but the spark arrestor on it doesn't seem to be removable like it is on the 250 one..Maybe it's supposed to be,, only paid $60.00 for it new so maybe the reason it was so cheap was because it's defective..The 250 one is super quiet with the arrestor in but sounds like a CRF with it out. Top pipes for those that like a bit of racket sometimes but the beauty is you can just put the arrestor back in to have an original quiet 600. The 250 one is pretty close to the same size pipe as the original..I had to do a bit of cutting and add an extension to get it to fit to the header,,then I just gunked the connections..Bit Mickey mouse but it'll do till I sort it properly one day.

Can you tell me what post it is in that thread. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I do an advanced search and type in cbret2 to find posts by him and it takes me to the threads but I don't want to go through all 1,647 posts to find it. I am way interested to see what this looks like

Yeah I like it. Sometimes it sounds a little loud to me but then I come back to my senses. I picked it up off a guy for free and i am not sure how much run time it had on it. It may need a repack.

Dead Stiff got the right pictures. But if you just click on my name by the post it will take you to my profile. I think you were just searching the wrong name.

well, if I can find one cheap enough I'm gonna try it

cbretr2: how do you start that bike, I don't see a kick lever (might be cause the picture is blurry) and I don't see a battery...?

Its an 04 650L. No kicker on it. Has a starter and the battery has been moved to the Air Box. Its one of the mods some people on here do. I enlarged the air box a little and put a CRF450X battery in there.

Cool, just the info I was looking for. The 450 pipes go for cheap and I ready they flow better than the 650 pipe.

Was it really as simple as the sleeve? I already have a set of CFR forks on the way and doing the battery mod now.

Got to lighten the PIGGY up!!

Totally different pipe that one in the picture to the Stainless steel versions,,still you're after weight saving so the stock 250/450X's stainless muffler would probably be to heavy for a fanatic..I've got a Yamaha WR450 Muffler on one of my other 600's (looks much the same as the one in the photo) ..it's also pretty loud..needs a repack I think..The Stainless ones never need repacking ..their like a proper road bike muffler..
