OK, I'm pulling my (sparse) hair out over this issue and I know there are folks who have gone down this road already. I'm not finding a readily available answer and hope you will respond.

XRR sumo conversion is in the stage of assembling pieces and parts. I have some excellent Warp9 wheels in the 17 inch size. The front is 3.5 x 17, the rear is 4.25 x 17.

Which size tires should I use and why?

Front: 110 or 120 / 60 or 70 /17

Rear: 130 or 140 or 150 or even 160 / 60 (no 70's) / 17

I see packaged sets on sleazBay and have offers for other tires both locally and on other sites........

I don't want to mod the rear of the bike at all, looking for good chain and swing-arm clearance. It's just a fun hooligan bike and I'm not a racer or overly aggresive.........

Whatcha got for advice?

160 is too large for the 4.25 rim, its very rounded and not normal. the correct answer is a 150. Some will say 160 but there not meant to be on that size a rim, just call dunlop up , or bridgestone, thell tell you that. But it is being done but not right. I have a set also of the qarp9s and ill use a 150, even though i want to go larger but cant

I would advise to go with a 120-70 in the front and a 150-60 in the rear.
Works well for me!!

I put the smallest Distanzia tires that would fit my Behr rims, similar to yours. Distanzia is an OK price and great for occasional dirt road. I have gone through several sets and continue to be impressed. I get about 2500 miles on a rear.

+1

That's the size that I run on my bike (XRL), using Conti-Force SM tires on the exact same size rims as the OP. All I had to do was cut off one of the chain guard mounts from the swingarm ... but you wouldn't have to worry about that on an XRR.

Thanks for those replies..........I had considered going a bit smaller on the rear, down to a 140/60/17 but your responses confirmed my other reads.

Interesting that some folks run a DS tire like the Distanzas vs a pure roadie like the Conti............I was planning on pure roadies since I have an XRR with knobs....

Anybody else is welcomed to kick in their thoughts...........

I really like the Distanzia I'm running (front only so far), and it even works pretty well for fooling around on the track.
