i just closed the engine and i notice that there is about 1 mm of free play in the countershaft, mainshaft, balancer.
i installed all the shims by the book, so is it normal?
i just dont want to end up with jumping gears...

the balancer free play not causing noise will the engine is working?

waiting for some answer,
thanks
pete

If what you want to know is does the Countershaft sprocket shaft move in and out about a mil if you pull and push the end of it then the answers Yes it does..The others don't as far as I' m aware..Theirs probably a tiny amount of leeway on the others but when those nuts on the Clutch and the other one just forward are tightened their should be b/all. Countershaft has the most movement.

thanks for the answer,
yes this is what i meant, the bearing are good without up/down play.
i think that the free play is more then 1 mm,i will say something like 2-2.5 mm.
i used the OEM gasket.
the countershaft & mainshaft have the same free play.

Yep...Well best I can say is the Countershaft does move in and out a bit..Probably over a mil..I was being conservative in my figures..It's pretty normal so if you have all the shims in the correct spots just go ahead with the rebuild. Your never going to know for sure whether it's ok till you get it running really. Bit of a lucky dip when doing the bottom end for us amateurs..It'll either work correctly when under load or it won't. Theirs only so many times you can run up and down through the box with the engine out of the bike and say.."it appears to be ok"..real test is when stress is applied in an actual running situation..thats when you start praying...

i'm not religious so i didn't want to leave it for praying,
so i guess i will have to wait and see.
but still the balancer free-play looks weird to me..1+ mm is too much.
