I have a Clark 4.7 on my XR. The top of my left riding boot rubs the tank while I stand. I can feel the plastic getting thinner in that area and was thinking about some preventive measure I could take before it rubs through and starts leaking.

Any suggestions of something I could stick on the plastic to reinforce it? I was thinking about a couple layers of duct tape.

Any idea's?

thanks

You could try some plastic sheet and double-sided tape. I don't know long it will stay on before fuel vapors might lift it, but it would at least look better(IMO) than duct tape. ;)

A good thin foam tape similar to automotive body and trim adhesive is sold as "servo tape" through hobby shops. It works better than cellophane tape on less-than-perfectly-flat surfaces. It's pretty thick, though, varying around 1-2mm.
